The BA in Public Health, offered by the School of Public Health and Social Policy, is designed for you if you're interested in public and population health and want to help communities access inclusive, equitable services. The program emphasizes social justice and focuses on community-based approaches to health promotion, protection, and prevention.

This distance education program is mainly asynchronous, with some optional synchronous or on-campus electives.

High school students can apply to the Faculty of Social Sciences and transfer into this program after one or more years of study at UVic.

For high-school students applying to the faculty of social sciences:

Grade 12 courses:

- English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 (73%) or [equivalent](https://www.uvic.ca/undergraduate/admissions/language-requirements/)
- Three approved academic 12 courses

Grade 11 courses:

- Approved English 11
- Foundations of Mathematics 11 or Pre-calculus 11
- Approved science 11
- Approved social studies 11/12

Recommended Admission Average: 82%

If you are a transfer student, you can apply directly to the Faculty of Human and Social Development and select the Health and Community Services program as your major when you submit your application to UVic.

- Students will have usually completed 30 units of post-secondary coursework at UVic or another recognized post-secondary institution, at the point of admission to this program.

    - Those who have completed at least 12 units of course work may apply to enter the program in second year for ON CAMPUS studies only;
    - Students who have completed 27 or more units may apply to enter the program in third year for ONLINE studies.

1. Personal statement of intent (double-spaced on a 12 point fonts, maximum two pages)

2. CV / resume of work and volunteer experience (maximum three pages) 

Admission Advice

- The BA in Public Health is a four-year degree program consisting of 30 required units.

- Most students entering the program will have already completed 30 units of first and second year course work at UVic or another recognized post-secondary institution, upon admission. Students interested in entering the program in second year and/or you have not yet completed 30 units of course work should contact phsp@uvic.ca to discuss whether they are eligible.

- Students are selected through a competitive application process. A GPA of 4.0 (B-) on the most recent 12 units is required for consideration.

- Admission of transfer students who have completed transferable coursework at another recognized post-secondary institution will be considered, as per UVic transfer credit policies outlined in the current UVic Calendar.

- All students must meet UVic’s “Academic Writing Requirement”, as outlined in the current UVic Calendar.

- It is strongly recommended that students have completed Pre-calculus 11 or Foundations of Mathematics 12 or equivalent.

The following deadlines must be met for September program entry:			
			
- Online application to UVic: late January
- Supplemental application: mid-April			
- Additional documents: mid-May		
- Proof of English language proficiency: mid-May
