The Language Cultural Proficiency (Chinese) Certificate allows you to build your Chinese language skills and explore Chinese culture. You'll be encouraged to study at universities in the Asia-Pacific region; the department recognizes a range of courses in language and other topics from these institutions for transfer credit obtained through an International Exchange Program or a Letter of Permission. 

This program is offered by the Department of Pacific and Asian Studies in the Faculty of Humanities. In addition to the requirements, students must consult their Faculty program requirements.

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. All of the following Grade 12 courses:
    - English 12 (67%) or equivalent
    - Three approved academic 12 courses

3. All of the following Grade 11 courses:
    - English 11 or equivalent
    - Foundations of Mathematics 11 or Pre-calculus 11 or equivalent
    - Science 11 or equivalent
    - Social Studies 11/12 or equivalent

Estimated admission average: 80%

Academic Admission Requirement

1. All applicants to UVic (regardless of country of origin or citizenship status) are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission. You can choose one of several ways to demonstrate language proficiency. You are not required to provide proof of language proficiency if you have studied full time for at least four years within Canada at the high school and/or post-secondary level, and all of your instruction has been in English.
2. Admission averages are calculated using all required Grade 12 courses for entry to a program. The actual admission average required for entry may be higher in the future due to increased competition and limited capacity.
3. This program is offered by the Department of Pacific and Asian Studies. In addition to the requirements above, students must consult their Faculty program requirements.

Admission Advice

Online applications to UVIC should be submitted by the following application deadlines:			
    - January for September program entry			
    - September for January program entry			
    - March for May program entry	

For specific dates, visit the institution's program page.	

The deadline to submit proof of language proficiency is typically one month after the application deadline. After you apply to UVic, your language-proficiency deadline will be indicated in your online application checklist.
