The Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies provides a comprehensive conceptual and applied foundation for those who seek to shape cities. Urban Studies gives students broad and deep knowledge of the historical and intellectual threads of urbanization throughout the world while also providing students with the fundamental tools needed to influence urban development.

Students must be admitted into Bachelor of Arts to pursue this program.

1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 or [equivalent](https://you.ubc.ca/applying-ubc/requirements/english-language-competency/) AND English 11 or their equivalents (70% in one of them)
3. Minimum six academic/non-academic Grade 12 courses (recommended)
4. Pre-Calculus 11 or Foundations of Math 12 or equivalent 
5. Any Science 11 or Science 12 course or equivalent 
6. A [Language 11](http://www.calendar.ubc.ca/vancouver/index.cfm?tree=2,22,63,0) or [Waiver ](https://you.ubc.ca/applying-ubc/applied/submit-documents/#canadian_high_school_student)(includes all second language courses, excludes introductory language 11 courses)
7. Grades presented in all relevant academic Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses that fall under these subject categories\* will be looked at:
   * Language Arts
   * Mathematics and Computation
   * Second Languages
   * Social Studies 
   * Visual and Performing Arts 
     * \*Note: There is no minimum number of courses required for admission, but you are encouraged to challenge yourself with a substantial number of courses that are relevant to your intended area of study.

1. Students may declare a Major or Minor with this Bachelor of Arts degree. While coursework usually starts in the first-year, the Major can be declared after the completion of either 27 or 54 undergraduate credits depending on the program.
2. There is no Honours option available for the Urban Studies - Bachelor of Arts program.
3. For students starting September 2026: There are no Grade 11 requirements
