The Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing is designed to build your range and confidence to the professional level, while familiarizing with practical aspects of the writing life. You’ll be actively involved in writing projects, chapbook production, magazine editing, new media work, student anthology production, and community learning projects. You’ll also have the chance to build a varied body of work for your own portfolio.

Students must be admitted into Bachelor of Arts to pursue this program. 

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 or [equivalent](https://you.ubc.ca/applying-ubc/requirements/english-language-competency/)

3. Minimum six academic/non-academic Grade 12 courses (recommended)

4. The following subject categories are particularly relevant for this degree. Consider taking courses in these areas in Grade 11 and Grade 12.
    - Language Arts
    - Mathematics and Computation
    - Second Languages
    - Social Studies 
    - Visual and Performing Arts 

*Note: There is no minimum number of courses required for admission, but you are encouraged to challenge yourself with a substantial number of courses that are relevant to your intended area of study.

1. As a general admission requirement, one of English 11, English 12 or their equivalents is required. However, English 12 or equivalent is specified as a requirement into the program.

2. Students may declare a Major, Minor or Honours within the Bachelor of Arts degree. While coursework usually starts in the first-year, the Major can be declared at the end of second-year study at UBCV (after completing 54 undergraduate credits). 

3. There is no Honours option available for the Creative Writing program.

Applications must be submitted by January for September entry. Early application is recommended.
