The Bachelor of Engineering in Software Engineering provides strong foundations in principles and practice of software systems development and related computing technologies. Project-based learning practices apply theoretical concepts to practical problems. As you move through the program, your courses will include areas such as engineering, business, computing science, and project management. Co-operative education is a mandatory requirement of the Software Engineering degree.

1. High school graduation or equivalent.
2.  English 12 (73%) or equivalent
3. Pre-calculus 12 (67%) or equivalent
4. Chemistry 11 (67%) or equivalent
5. Physics 11 (67%) or equivalent 
Note: Physics 12 is preferred.

6. Following courses are also recommended:

- Calculus 12
- Drafting 12
- Computing or Information Technology course involving computer programming and problem solving experience with high level languages such as Java, C/C++, or Visual Basic.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Out-of-the-province students can click here to see Canadian secondary school course equivalencies for admission prerequisites. 

2. Admission is competitive based on grades in Grade 11 and 12 prerequisite courses.

3. Students who have completed parts of a first-year engineering program at a recognized university will be considered for admission on a case by case basis and require approval of the TRU Engineering Undergraduate Admission Committee.  It may require an upgrade or completion of pre-requisite courses.

4. If you have completed a year of post-secondary studies in science or related studies, you can also be considered on a case-by-case basis and will require the approval of the TRU engineering undergraduate admission committee. You are expected to have:

- Overall GPA of 3.00 (B) or better
- Grades of B (or better) in first-year mathematics courses
- Grades of B (or better) in first-year physics courses
- Grades of B (or better) in first-year chemistry courses
- Grades of C+ (or better) in first-year English courses

5. Second- and third-year entry is possible, if you have completed or partially completed first-year or second-year science, engineering or related courses from Thompson Rivers University or at a recognized university. Contact the department to verify details.
