The Social Service Worker (Gerontology) Certificate program prepares graduates for employment in the community-based seniors’ services sector. This entry-level certificate program does not require applicants to have previous post-secondary experience. The program also ladders directly into the existing Diploma in Gerontology program at Langara College for those who would like advanced certification.

1. High school graduation OR 19 years of age or older OR equivalent
2. English Studies 12 (70%) or [equivalent](https://langara.ca/admissions/requirements/english-language-requirements/index.html) (Category 2)


Academic Admission Requirement

1. Completed gerontology supplemental application form.
2. An interview with a program faculty member.
3. Volunteer (or paid) experience in the human service field. Minimum 60 hours is preferred. 
4. Two letters of reference. One letter must be from a human service agency or organization.

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1\. It is the responsibility of program applicants to contact the Social Service Worker department to set up the interview.
2\. Preference is given to candidates who are at least 21 years old by the time they enter the program. Opportunities for required practicum placement (i.e., practical work experiences) for students under 21 years old are limited.
3\. Once accepted, you will be required to complete a criminal record check (CRC). This criminal record check must be submitted to the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General. The link to access the consent form to be submitted to the Ministry will be emailed to each applicant upon acceptance.

Admission Advice

Applications may be submitted starting 11 months before the intended program start date. Early application is recommended.		
		
The deadline to submit a complete application in order to be admitted for the fall, spring, or summer semesters is the first day of classes for that program-entry semester. A complete application includes a completed application form, application fee payment, and any supporting documents required. No applications will be accepted after the deadline date.
