The East Kootenay Teacher Education Program (EKTEP) provides students with the opportunity to complete a UVic Bachelor of Education degree at College of the Rockies (COTR) campus in Cranbrook, British Columbia, within the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa Nation.

**Year one admission requirements**

1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. English - one of:
   * English Studies 12 (73%)
   * English First Peoples 12 (73%)
   * or [equivalent](https://www.uvic.ca/undergraduate/admissions/language-requirements/)
3. Three [approved ](https://www.uvic.ca/undergraduate/admissions/how-to-apply/approved-high-school-courses/bc-yukon/)academic 12 courses
4. Approved English 11
5. Math - one of:
   * Foundations of Mathematics 11
   * Pre-calculus 11
6. Approved science 11
7. Approved social studies 11 or 12



**Year two admission requirements**

1. English: two approved courses, including a minimum of 1.5 units of approved literature (C+ in each course)
2. Canadian studies: two approved courses
3. Mathematics: two approved courses, one must have been completed within the last 10 years (C+)
4. Science: two approved courses, one must have been completed within the last 10 years
5. Electives: two approved courses

**Year two entry additional requirements**

1. A minimum of 75 hours\* of practical experience working with groups of at least four children or youth at the age level you wish to teach (ages 5-12 for elementary) within the past three years

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. This program is held in partnership with the University of Victoria (UVic). Visit the University of Victoria Bachelor of Education Degree program website to see more details. 
2. Students admitted into Year One of the program will enroll at College of the Rockies (COTR) in first-year university-level courses (through a dual admission agreement with UVic). For the remaining three years, you will be enrolled in University of Victoria courses but receive your instruction, in the classroom, at COTR's Cranbrook campus.&#x20;
3. Alternatively, you may be eligible for admission to year two of the Bachelor of Education program, if you've completed at least two approved courses in each of English, Canadian studies, laboratory science and mathematics. 
4. All applicants to UVic (regardless of country of origin or citizenship status) are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission. You can choose one of several ways to demonstrate language proficiency. You are not required to provide proof of language proficiency if you have studied full time for at least four years within Canada at the high school and/or post-secondary level, and all of your instruction has been in English.
5. It's strongly recommended that you contact a Faculty of Education academic advisor at UVic for assistance with navigating the admission requirements.
6. Admission averages for Year-One Entry are calculated using all required Grade 12 courses for entry to a program. The estimated admission average is 90%. Admission Advice

Application deadline for Dual Admissions is January 31. You also need to complete the UVic Self Reporting Form.

Proof of English language proficiency: typically one month after the application deadline. Your language-proficiency deadline will be indicated in your online application checklist after you submit your online application to UVic.
