The ECCE Diploma program is four semesters and spans two academic years.  It is designed to accommodate both full-time and part-time students.  There is an option to opt-out of the Diploma program after successfully completing the 15 courses required and be granted a Coast Mountain College certificate for the ECCE Certificate Program.

Following completion of one of the courses listed below (ECCE 104 and ECCE 167), students may apply for the Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate with the Early Childhood Registry. This allows students to work within the childcare system while continuing to complete the BC ECE Basic Certificate Program or other program of study.

1. One of:
   * High school graduation
   * Mature Student

* English Studies 12, English First Peoples 12 or [equivalent](https://coastmountaincollege.ca/admissions/requirements/language-requirements/domestic-english-language-requirements)

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Criminal Record Check
2. Two letters of reference confirming suitability for working with young children, written and dated within one year of the application
3. Resume
4. Proof of compliance with BC's Immunization and Tuberculosis (TB) Control 
5. A type-written statement (between 500-800 words) outlining work and/or volunteer experience with children age birth to six, career goals, and reasons for taking the ECCE program

Additional Academic Admission Requirement



1. The 1-year Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Certificate program does not accept applications. Students interested in completing only the ECCE Certificate need to apply for admission to the two-year ECCE Diploma and exit with the Certificate after completing the graduation requirements of the ECCE Certificate (15 courses). 

2. English proficiency is required for all students entering CMTN programs.  Please visit the English Language Alternatives page to see how this requirement can be met using the equivalent of English Studies 12 (pass). 

3. All admitted students are required to take the CAT English Placement test. If you do not receive a satisfactory score, you will have the option of English upgrading and a modified course load.   

4. A successful Criminal Record Check is required for anyone working with children in a child care centre. Certain crimes make practicum placement, graduation and future employment impossible.
