The Bachelor of Science Degree in Food and Resource Economics is about critical issues in local and global food production and distribution using the lens of economics, business management, and interdisciplinary science. You'll learn more about the limits of the market and the role of government in making the global food supply more efficient and equitable, and find out how to identify the most effective way for society to deal with natural resource and environmental degradation. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared for a variety of careers in the food and natural resource sectors.

Food and Resource Economics is a second-year entry program. 

1. Completion of at least 24 undergraduate credits, including equivalent of:
    - LFS 150 or WRDS 100 or an ENGL 100-level course
    - MATH 104
    - ECON 101
    - MATH 105 or ECON 102

2. Academic standing of 70% or 2.8 GPA


Academic Admission Requirement

1. Letter of Intent (500 word maximum) which addresses the following:
    - Why you wish to enroll in this program
    - Your professional aspirations
    - Any relevant personal, volunteer, or work experience

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. Admission is competitive as enrollment is limited. Achieving the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. More information about this Program can be found in the Academic Calendar and department website. 

2. While not required, students interested in applying to the Bachelor of Science in Food and Resource Economics are strongly encouraged to follow the first-year requirements of the Food and Resource Economics Degree. 

3. There are three specializations of the Food and Resource Economics program. You are allowed to mix and match between them: 
    - Food Markets and Development 
    - Land, Resources and Environment 
    - Food and Resources Management

Admission Advice

Applications must be submitted for most programs by January for September entry. Early application is recommended. Confirm dates with UBCV.
