The Bachelor of Science in Food, Nutrition and, and Health Degree: Food and Nutritional Sciences combines the core degree requirements of the Food Science and Nutritional Sciences programs. You’ll discover the chemistry and microbiology of food, its nutritional and sensory properties, and the function of nutrients in health and disease, and graduate ready for a career in the food and nutrition industries or graduate-level study in health sciences.

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. English 12 and English 11 or their equivalents (70% in one of them)

3. Minimum six academic/non-academic Grade 12 courses (recommended)

4. Pre-Calculus 12 or equivalent

5. One of:
    - Anatomy and Physiology 12 (Biology 12)
    - Chemistry 12
    - Physics 12
    - Equivalent

6. A Language 11 or Waiver (includes all second language courses, excludes introductory language 11 courses)

7. Pre-Calculus 11 or Foundations of Math 12 or equivalent

8. Chemistry 11 or equivalent 

9. Physics 11 or equivalent
    - Note: Physics 11 may be waived with scores of 86% or higher in senior-level Math and junior-level or senior-level Chemistry, or scores of 5 or higher in IB Mathematics and IB Chemistry.

10. Grades presented in all relevant academic Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses that fall under these subject categories* will be looked at:
    - Language Arts
    - Mathematics & Computation
    - Second Languages 
    - Social Studies 
        - *Note: There is no minimum number of courses required for admission, but you are encouraged to challenge yourself with a substantial number of courses that are relevant to your intended area of study.

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. While coursework start in the first-year, entry to the Food and Nutritional Sciences Double Major occurs at the end of first-year study. Students may apply after completing at least 24 credits of the listed first-year courses in the Bachelor of Science in Food, Nutrition and Health program (or their equivalent).

2. If you are a high school student interested in pursuing this major at UBCV, you should first apply for the Bachelor of Science in Food, Nutrition and Health (FNH). Once you are in the FNH program, you can apply to Food and Nutritional Sciences Double Major as early as the end of Year 

3. If you are a college or university student interested in pursuing this major at UBCV, you should apply for both the Bachelor of Science in Food, Nutrition and Health (the degree that you will be working towards) and the Food and Nutritional Sciences Double Major (the specific major within the degree program).

4. Admission to Double Major in Food and Nutritional Sciences is competitive and is assessed based on your academic performance and letter of intent. Students who are not accepted into the major would be eligible to complete the Food, Nutrition and Health general major, or select another program if appropriate.

Admission Advice

Applications must be submitted for most programs by January for September entry. Early application is recommended. Confirm dates with UBCV.
Exceptions of certain programs are available on UBCV Vancouver Academic Calendar 2023/24.
