The Child and Youth Care Diploma program prepares you to be skilled in working with individuals, their families and small groups across a variety of practice settings. General practice in these settings calls for individuals who are willing and able to work cooperatively with other community professionals, and in a variety of multi-disciplinary settings (schools, community, corrections facilities, residential settings). Aboriginal ways of knowing and cultural competency skills are highlighted throughout the curriculum.

Students interested in the Child and Youth Care Diploma must apply to the Child and Youth Care: Bachelor of Arts Degree.

For entry into first year:
1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. English 12 (C) or equivalent

OR

For entry into second year:
1. One of:
    - Completion of at least 30 credits of undergraduate study, including six credits of English, six credits of Human Development (CYC 111 and CYC 112), and CYC 100, 101, 152, and 165
    - Human Services Certificate which includes the English and Human Development and CYC courses or equivalency as noted above (6 credits of English and CYC 111, 112, 100, 101, 152 and 165).
2. Most recently completed 24 credits (C+ or 2.33 GPA per course identified above)

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Transcripts from all secondary and post-secondary institutions attended
2. Education/work resume
3. 300-word statement which focuses on why it is important for you to work with children, youth and families
4. Two completed reference forms
5. Criminal Record Check (before you can participate in the practicum)
6. Interview (may be required) 
7. Standard First Aid with Infant/Child CPR certification

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. Enrollment in the program is limited. Admission is on a competitive basis. Meeting or exceeding the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission into the program. 
2.  Students interested in the Diploma must apply to the Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care. Upon successful completion of the first two years (60 credits including practicum) of the Bachelor degree, students will be eligible to receive the Child and Youth Care Diploma. Prior to completion of the first year, students must indicate their interest in exiting with their Child and Youth Care Diploma. Students who take courses in Child and Youth Care without being formally admitted into the program are not guaranteed entry into the program.

Applications are accepted for September entry from the first business day in October to March. Early application is recommended.
