The Dental Reception certificate allows you to learn dental terminology, specialized software, and the full set of skills needed to coordinate a dental office. Acquisition of dental reception and software skills are enhanced through practicum in a dental practice.

1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. English 12 (C) or [equivalent](https://www.vcc.ca/applying/registration-services/english-language-proficiency-requirements/general-information/)

Note: Applicants who have completed a Level II Dental Assisting program from a Canadian accredited institution can be waived from the above requirements.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. The following will be required upon acceptance:
   * Criminal Record Check through the Ministry of Justice according to [VCC's Criminal Record Check Instructions](https://www.vcc.ca/crc)
   * Proof of a negative TB skin test within 6 months. In case of a positive TB skin test, a negative TB chest x-ray report is required
   * a current CPR certification (level C)
2. This program is available to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school. (Some exceptions may apply.)
3. Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous are strongly encouraged to connect with VCC’s [Indigenous Education and Community Engagement team](https://www.vcc.ca/services/services-for-students/indigenous-services/) to learn more about VCC’s Indigenous Enrolment policy, application preparation/completion, program advising, and a range of other individualized services.
4. Applicants must [submit official transcripts and other documents](https://www.vcc.ca/applying/registration-services/admissions-and-registration/applying-to-vcc/how-to-submit-transcripts/) as required by their course or program. Seats are offered to eligible applicants with completed applications, in order of application completion date (except for programs with competitive admissions). A complete application includes an application form, evidence of educational pre-requisites (e.g. transcripts), any required supporting documents (e.g. language proficiency, audition video), and the required deposit or fee payment.

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. A completed [VCC School of Health Sciences Immunization record](https://www.vcc.ca/applying/registration-services/admissions-and-registration/non-academic-admissions-requirements/immunization-record/). Updated immunizations are strongly recommended and may be required for practicum placement in the program:
   * Pertussis
   * Diphtheria
   * Tetanus
   * Polio
   * Measles/Mumps/Rubella
   * Chicken Pox
   * Hepatitis B
   * Influenza (required annually)
   * COVID-19
2. Recommended Characteristics:
   * Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English
   * Empathetic and caring attitude
   * Ability to work independently and within a team environment
   * Detail oriented
   * Effective time management skills
   * Computer literacy (email, word processing and use of the internet)
