1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. English 12 or equivalent
3. Workplace Math 11 or equivalent or VCC Basic Math Assessment with Basic Arithmetic (80%) and Basic Algebra (60%)

Academic Admission Requirement

1. You are recommended to have:
 
- Related work experience
- Excellent English communication skills
- Working knowledge of Windows OS
- Good mathematical and mechanical comprehension
- Ability to work in imperial and metric units of measurement
- General good health, good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Solid work habits and an ability to work well with others
- Logical reasoning and an ability to visualize objects
- An interest in all aspects of architecture, engineering, general construction and related fields

 

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

 1. This program does not accept application. Students interested in completing the certificate program can apply to the Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) & Building Information Modelling (BIM) Diploma and work towards earning the certificate. Once you have successfully complete Term 3 of CAD & BIM Diploma, you may request to exit the program and obtain a certificate.
2. If you do not meet the English language requirement, you may still possibly be admitted at the discretion of the Department.
3. If you have met all the academic requirements and have completed high school Drafting 11 and 12, you may apply for direct entry into Term 2 of the program. Departmental approval is required. 
4. If you have completed VCC's CAD Technician Short Certificate (granted within the last 4 years), you may apply for direct entry into Term 2 of the program. 
5. Graduates of the Architectural Technician Certificate have the option of further developing their skills by adding an additional specialty of Architectural or Mechanical in Year 2 (i.e. Term 4, 5 and 6 of the CAD and BIM Diploma) to obtain a Diploma in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) & Building Information Modelling (BIM). 
6. There are four specialty areas in the Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) & Building Information Modelling (BIM) Diploma to select from. Students must complete two of these programs (one program per year) to obtain the Diploma:
 
- Steel Construction Modelling Technician Certificate (available first year only)
- Architectural Technician Certificate 
- Civil/Structural Technician Certificate 
- Mechanical Engineer Technician Certificate
