The Architectural Technician certificate allows you to learn Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) software and techniques used in developing residential housing, commercial buildings, and institutional complexes.

1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. English 12 (C-) or [equivalent](https://www.vcc.ca/applying/registration-services/english-language-proficiency-requirements/general-information/)
3. Workplace Math 11 or equivalent or
4. VCC Math Basic Assessment with Basic Arithmetic (80%) and Basic Algebra (60%)
5. VCC CAD Short Certificate graduates (granted within the last 2 years) may be eligible to receive credit for: DRFT 1010, DRFT 1011, DRFT 1012, DRFT 1013.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. You are recommended to have:

* Excellent English communication skills
* Working knowledge of Windows OS
* Good mathematical and mechanical comprehension
* Ability to work in imperial and metric units of measurement
* General good health, good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
* Solid work habits and an ability to work well with others
* Logical reasoning and an ability to visualize objects
* An interest in all aspects of architecture, engineering, general construction and related fields

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. This program available to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Students interested in completing the certificate program can apply for the Architectural Technician Diploma. Once you have successfully complete term 3, you may request to exit the program and obtain a certificate.
2. If you do not meet the English language requirement, you may still possibly be admitted at the discretion of the Department.
3. If you have met all the academic requirements and have completed high school Drafting 11 and 12, you may apply for direct entry into Term 2 of the program. Departmental approval is required.
4. If you have completed VCC's CAD Technician Short Certificate (granted within the last 4 years), you may apply for direct entry into Term 2 of the program.
5. Graduates of the Architectural Technician Certificate have the option of further developing their skills by adding an additional specialty of Civil/Structural or Mechanical in Year 2 (i.e. Term 4, 5 and 6 of the CAD and BIM Diploma) to obtain a Diploma in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) & Building Information Modelling (BIM).
6. If you are missing any prerequisites, VCC offers academic upgrading, English as a Second Language courses, and university transfer options.
7. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school. (Some exceptions may apply.)
8. Applicants must [submit official transcripts and other documents](https://www.vcc.ca/applying/registration-services/admissions-and-registration/applying-to-vcc/how-to-submit-transcripts/) as required by their course or program. Seats are offered to eligible applicants with completed applications, in order of application completion date (except for programs with competitive admissions). A complete application includes an application form, evidence of educational pre-requisites (e.g. transcripts), any required supporting documents (e.g. language proficiency, audition video), and the required deposit or fee payment. If you do not meet the requirements for the term applied, your application may be cancelled.

Admission Advice

Students can apply for the Architectural Technician Diploma. Once you have successfully completed term 3, you may request to exit the program and obtain a certificate.
