The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology explores diverse topics, from the factors involved in social interactions among individuals and groups, to the processes underlying the nervous system, to moral development in children and what gives us a sense of well-being. You can participate in co-op education placements to broad your skills and gain hands-on experience in your field of study.

Students must be admitted into Bachelor of Arts to pursue this program. 

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 or [equivalent](https://you.ubc.ca/applying-ubc/requirements/english-language-competency/) 

3. Minimum six academic/non-academic Grade 12 courses (recommended)

4. The following subject categories are particularly relevant for this degree. Consider taking courses in these areas in Grade 11 and Grade 12.
    - Language Arts
    - Mathematics and Computation
    - Second Languages
    - Social Studies 
    - Visual and Performing Arts 

*Note: There is no minimum number of courses required for admission, but you are encouraged to challenge yourself with a substantial number of courses that are relevant to your intended area of study.


Academic Admission Requirement

1. As a general admission requirement, one of English 11, English 12 or their equivalents is required. However, English 12 or equivalent is specified as a requirement into the program.

2. Students may pursue a Major, Minor or Honours in Psychology within the Bachelor of Arts degree. While coursework normally starts in the first-year, you are encouraged to declare your Major at the end of your first-year study. To be admitted to the major in Psychology, students must successfully complete both PSYO 111 and 121 (or equivalent) and a minimum of 24 credits.

3. To be admitted to the Psychology Honours program, students must have all of the following:
    - Fourth-year standing
    - Minimum 76% weighted average (from all Psychology courses)
    - Minimum 76% weighted average (over last 60 credits)
    - Preliminary thesis topic (approved by a thesis supervisor)
    - Completion of PSYO 372 and PSYO 373 (Minimum 76% in each)
