The Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate provides a broad understanding of theory and skills needed to function as a medical laboratory assistant in hospitals or private clinical laboratories. A clinical practicum will provide pracitcal hands-on learning of classroom studies.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Basic computers skills with a typing speed of at 40 words per minute on a five-minute test (note: the typing test must be set up through TRU's Assessment Centre)

2. In addition to submitting an online application, you will also need to submit the following:
    - Criminal Record Check 
    - Original copy of a Hepatitis B vaccination form
    - Hep B blood panel test if you have been previously vaccinated 
    - Confirmation of a practicum-training site
    - A full immunization record (for placements in health authorities)
3. A clinical practicum is required to complete the program. Practicum availability may be limited by geographic location, time of year, space and enrolment. Practicum placements cannot be guaranteed in your home region. Please contact the Program Administrator to confirm where practicums can be arranged before you apply to the program.
