The Veterinary Technology Diploma allows you to work with a menagerie of small animals and gain experience with livestock, wildlife and birds as a veterinary technician, assisting veterinarians and veterinary scientists. The program gives you the skills to work in diagnostic testing, radiography, medical procedures, office protocol, animal nursing, anesthesia, and surgical assistance.

1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. English 12 (C+) or equivalent
3. Foundations of Math 11 (C+) or equivalent
4. One of:

    - Anatomy & Physiology 12 (C+) or equivalent
    - Biology 12 (C+) or equivalent
    - Chemistry 12 (C+) or equivalent
    - Physics 12 (C+) or equivalent

5. Chemistry 11 (C+) or equivalent
6. Life Sciences 11 (C+) or equivalent

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status
2. Understanding of a career in veterinary technology by following the Application Checklist:

    - Part one = watch the selected videos and complete a know/wonder/learn word document
    - Part two = interviewing a Registered Veterinary Technologist and keep detailed notes
    - Part three = creating a 4-7 minute introduction Question & Answer Video

3. Resume
4. Three reference letters from each of these areas: (1) animal related work or volunteer experience (2) any non-veterinary work or volunteer experience
5. Attendance at a mandatory virtual Program Orientation Session upon invitation from the Animal Health Technology Department
7. Successful medical (after acceptance)


Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. Visit the program page to learn more about Canadian secondary school course equivalencies for academic admission requirements. 

2. You should have an interest in working with and caring for animals. This includes such areas as farms, SPCA, wildlife refuges, or any other animal oriented facility.

3. Admission to the Veterinary Technology Program is very competitive. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission or an invitation to the program orientation session. The program uses a selective enrollment process. Admission to the program is based on the following criteria:

    - Academic history
    - Exposure to veterinary practice either as a volunteer or as a paid employee (include reference form)
    - Demonstrated understanding of a career in Veterinary Technology
    - Other animal related experience such as on a farm, in an SPCA shelter, at a wildlife refuge, in research, etc. (include reference form)
    - Other non-veterinary related work or volunteer experience (include reference form)

4. The application deadline is February 1. All required courses and admission documents must be completed and submitted by the application deadline.
