The Engineering (Year 1) University Transfer Program is a start to your engineering degree at TRU by taking one year of general study courses that are common to all engineering disciplines. This program transfers into the second year of a full engineering program at either the University of British Columbia or the University of Victoria, or stay at TRU to complete the BEng in Software Engineering Program. Use mathematics, sciences, and their applications to solve real-life problems.

1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. English 12 (73%) or equivalent
3. Pre-calculus 12 (73%) or equivalent
4. Physics 12 (73%) or equivalent
5. Chemistry 11 (73%) or equivalent. 
    - Note: Chemistry 12 is highly recommended
6. Following courses are also recommended:
    - Calculus 12
    - Drafting 12
    - Computing or Information Technology course involving computer programming and problem solving experience with high level languages such as Java, C/C++, or Visual Basic.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Out-of-the-province students can click here to see Canadian secondary school course equivalencies for admissions. 

2. If you are a high school student and still currently completing your grade 12, you may be considered for conditional admission based on the following criteria: 

    - Pre-calculus 11 (80%) or Pre-calculus 12 (73%) or equivalent
    - Physics 11 (80%) or Physics 12 (73%) or equivalent
    - Chemistry 11 (80%) or Chemistry 12 (73%) or equivalent
    - One of: Composition 11, Creative Writing 11, Literary Studies 11, New Media 11, Spoken Language 11, EFP Literary Studies and Writing 11, EFP Literary Studies and New Media 11, or EFP Literary Studies and Spoken Language 11 with A- (80%); or English Studies 12/English First Peoples 12 (or equivalent) with B (73%) (combined high school and government exam) or better
    - Note: Grade 12 results will be used when a grade is presented on the transcript.

3. There are 60 seats available in the TRU first-year engineering transfer program. Admission is competitive based on academic performance in Grade 11 and 12 admission prerequisite courses. Meeting minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee admission.

4. Students who have completed parts of a first-year engineering program at a recognized university will be considered for admission on a case by case basis.  It may require an upgrade or completion of pre-requisite courses.

5. After completing the first-year Engineering Transfer Program at TRU, students are eligible for admission to UBC's Faculty of Engineering (with at least a GPA of 2.8) or admission to UVic's Faculty of Engineering (with a GPA ranging from 2.33 to 3.33). Please confirm it with UBC and UVic as every year there may be some changes. Alternatively, you also have the opportunity to continue your study at TRU by entering the 2nd year of TRU's Bachelor of Engineering in Software Engineering program.

Applications should be submitted by the March deadline for admission of the following September.

Completed applications which are received before the application deadline may be considered for early review.
