The Nursing Unit Clerk Certificate prepares you with the knowledge, skills and experience to work in a health care setting as a Nursing Unit Assistant (NUA), Nursing Unit Clerk (NUC), or Health Unit Coordinator/Hospital Unit Clerk (HUC). You will learn to apply basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, diagnostics and pharmacology in an acute-care setting, as well as apply critical thinking skills and transfer knowledge effectively.

(Minimum grade)
1. One of:
    - High school graduation or equivalent
    - Minimum 19 years of age
      Note: If you are under the age of 19 and/or do not have a BC senior secondary school diploma or     
      equivalent, you must be enrolled in a secondary school transitions program, be enrolled in a program 
      under an agreement with the local school district, or have written consent from a parent or guardian and 
      letters of support from people who are familiar with your circumstances, such as a school principal or 
      health care provider.

2. English 12 (60%) or equivalent

Academic Admission Requirement


1. Keyboarding speed of at least 40 words per minute (on a supervised five-minute test)
2. Computer skills including knowledge and skills of internet, email, word processing and file management
3. Criminal Record Check from the Ministry of Justice
4. Record of up-to-date immunizations as per provincial guidelines
5. Official transcripts
6. Completed Application Form

1. You are encouraged to complete the computer skills self-assessment.

2. Download and complete the forms in the Nursing Unit Clerk Certificate's Application Package .

Admission Advice

Applications may be submitted up to 12 months before the program start date, in September. Qualified applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Early application is recommended. Once the seats have been filled, a waitlist will be created and maintained for 12 months after which applicants who are not admitted or have deferred a seat must reapply to affirm their continued interest in the program.
