The Musical Theatre Diploma program is a career preparation course for those students who are serious about pursuing a career in the performing arts. This program consists of over 35 hours of weekly studio time with opportunities to perform through most of the six terms. Students will refine performance skills in acting, singing, dancing, screen acting, audition techniques, voice-over and learn the business side of the profession with faculty drawn from the professional theatre and screen industries.

Steps: 
1. Apply- Apply to the Musical Theatre (MUTH) diploma program at Capilano University.

2. Schedule your audition- The School of Performing Arts will schedule your audition/interview.

3. Submit your documents- Prior to your audition/interview, please submit the following required documents:
    - Letter of Intent: outline why you want to study MUTH at CapU and briefly describe your theatre background, career goals and training;
    - Letter of Recommendation: from a teacher or theatre professional;
    - A recent photograph.
4. Audition- You will audition for a panel of faculty from the Musical Theatre program. Once you have scheduled your audition time, detailed information will be provided, including a selection of monologues and songs. There are two components to the audition:
    - An individual audition, comprised of a monologue, a song and a short interview
    - A group audition comprised of a choreographed dance (which will be taught to you) using tap, jazz or ballet techniques and a group question and answer session. 

5. Distance auditions- While it is highly recommended that you audition in person, the Theatre department at Capilano University will accept digital (such as YouTube) audition submissions. Information for distance auditions will be sent to you by the School of Performing Arts. Distance applications include a monologue, a song, a short dance piece, as well as a short time in front of the camera answering some general interview questions, all of which we will provide.

6. English is the language of instruction at CapU. All applicants are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission. If English is not your first language or you’ve received your education in a language other than English, you must meet our [English Language Requirements.](https://www.capilanou.ca/admissions/apply-to-capu/admission-requirements/english-language-requirements/)

7. Current Grade 12 students can be conditionally accepted based on final Grade 11 grades or interim Grade 12 grades. Students can upload proof of grades (e.g. unofficial transcripts, copies of report cards) through [EducationPlannerBC](https://apply.educationplannerbc.ca/apply/complete-application/capilanou) when applying to Capilano University. Final acceptance will be based on high school graduation and having met the program specific requirements.

8. Applicants from B.C high schools must release their grades to CapU via the [BC Ministry of Education at Student Transcripts Services](https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/education-training/k-12/support/transcripts-and-certificates) (STS) as soon as possible.
