The Medical Radiology Diploma program trains individuals in X-ray imaging. Students are trained in areas of computed tomography (CT), fluoroscopy, OR imaging, emergency/trauma, interventional procedures, and mammography.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Physical and Program Requirements -To acknowledge the nature of this training and the physically demanding nature of this work.
2. Mandatory Applicant Questionnaire - This form will be used with other entrance requirements to assess how prepared the applicant is to enter the program. This will determine if a meeting is required with the program.

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. If you plan to upgrade the math, biology, or physics requirements, please note the following:
    - Students can only write the math and physics challenge exams once.
    - Students who register and write these exams a second time will be given the mark from their first attempt.
    - The human biology course content must include cytology and the structure and function of the following organ systems: digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, renal/urinary, and reproductive.
    - To meet the minimum requirements, applicants must submit final or midterm grades in support of their application. Midterm reports must demonstrate a minimum completion of 50% of the gradable course work.

2. Applicants conditionally accepted into the Medical Radiography program will be notified. The following will be required for full acceptance:
    - MRAD 0150 - Medical Terminology for Imaging (80%): Access to this online course is provided once you are conditionally accepted or waitlisted.
    - MRAD 0120 - MRAD Pre-program Preparation
    - CPR Level C with an issue date within three months of the program start
    - Criminal Record Check
    - Immunization Review: Submit to Student Health Services. Immunization is a mandatory requirement for this program. For instructions and more information, visit Student Health Services’ Health Science Student Information.
    - Consent for Use and Disclosure of Student Information
    - Volunteer validation letter outlining a minimum of 30 hours of volunteer work in a patient-related environment.

3. This is a physically and emotionally demanding profession requiring a controlled sensitivity to disturbing medical scenarios and the ability to work in a busy, sometimes stressful environment. Since the work is highly technical and exacting, you must feel comfortable with complex instruments, possess considerable manual dexterity, and have meticulous work habits. You must have a strong sense of responsibility and a desire to work as a health-care team worker with the stress management skills to cope with trauma situations, surgical procedures and acutely ill patients.

Technologists must have:
    - high level of physical and mental resilience
    - fine motor control
    - the physical strength to lift and move incapacitated patients or heavy equipment
    - good core strength to stand for long periods of time with and without protective apparel
    - demonstrated good visual depth perception and discernment of grey colour scale
    - demonstrated critical thinking skills
    - excellent communication and interpersonal skills
