The Academic Foundations for Potential Health Information Management Applicants has 10 university-transferable courses that will prepare you for entrance into the BSc HIM program. Once you've completed all required courses with a minimum grade of C+, you'll receive priority registration for entrance to the BSc HIM program. It is important to note that completion of this certificate does not guarantee admission to the BSc HIM program.

1. High school graduation or equivalent or

    - One course short of BC secondary school graduation
    - 19 years old by the end of the first month of the first semester of attendance
    - 17 years old on the first day of the first semester of attendance and has not been in school for at least one year
    - Completion of a certificate or equivalent from a special needs program and has been in school for 12 years, or has received an Evergreen or Leaving School Certificate

2. English 12 (B) or equivalent* 

3. Biology 11 (B) or 12 (B) or Life Sciences 11 (B) or Anatomy and Physiology 12 (B) or equivalent

4. Foundations of Math 11 (B) or 12 (B) or equivalent

Note: 

- university transferable course work in the above subject areas may be used towards meeting the entrance requirements
- *based on both the course grade and provincial literacy assessment


Academic Admission Requirement

1. Interview may be required with a representative of the BScHIM program for the purposes of providing additional information and/or for academic advising.

1. If you are missing some of the requirements for admission and/or for course registration, Douglas College offers academic upgrading courses to help you get started.

2. Priority admission to the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management program will be given to students who complete this program.	
	
3. Admission to this program does not guarantee admission to the Bachelor of Science in Health Information program. Students may apply to the BScHIM program for the Fall semester following completion of the required 30 credits listed under Curriculum Framework.	

Admission Advice

Admissions to open-enrollment programs are offered on a first-qualified, first-admitted basis. Students are encouraged to apply early. 

September intake- applications typically open in early October of the previous year until late August / early September. 

January intake- applications typically open in early February of the previous year until late December / early January. May intake- applications typically open in early June of the previous year until late April / early May. Verify with the institution for specific dates.
