The Practical Nursing Diploma prepares you to give professional care to individuals and families in a variety of health care delivery settings. Upon completion of your second year, you will be eligible to write the Regulatory Exam – Practical Nurse. You are then able to apply to be registered with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) in order to become licensed as a Practical Nurse. Throughout this program, there are clinical placements and in order to meet requirements for them, you may have to travel to regional areas in the East Kootenay.

Academic Admission Requirement

	
1. Evidence of satisfactory health (complete the Requisite Skills and Abilities Declaration; see details)	
2. FOIPP Voluntary Self-Disclosure	
3. CPR for Health Care Providers Certificate (BLS or HCP or equivalent; must be kept valid during the program)	
4. Current immunization record as per BCCDC for BC Health Care Workers (including annual influenza immunization)*	
5. Negative TB testing results	
6. Criminal Record Check through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Records Review Program	
	
Note(*): Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and strain to the health human resources, College of the Rockies will not require information of Immunization /First Aid / CPR requirements at present to complete your application. This information will be required at a later date once the COVID-19 pandemic is declared resolved.	

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. Criminal record check is to be conducted through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Records Review Program. Conviction of a criminal offense may influence admission to the program or access to employment opportunities.	
	
2. If English is your second or additional language, you are required to achieve the following scores in one of the two tests (as per requirements set by BC College of Nurses and Midwives):

Admission Advice

Applications will open in November. Admission is based upon a first qualified, first-admitted principle which is based on the date and time the applicant meets all admission requirements. Early application is therefore recommended.
