The Health Care Assistant Certificate covers the knowledge, skills and abilities you require in order to provide personal care to others. With 12 weeks of supervised practical experience, you will have the opportunity to put the theory you have learned into practice and gain the skills you need to for a successful career. The HCA program is offered in a blended synchronous/asynchronous format, theory courses are delivered online (synchronously) and laboratory and practical courses are delivered face-to-face; you are required to attend all instructional activities at the scheduled times.

1. One of:		
    - Grade 10 completion or equivalent
    - Adult Basic Education Intermediate Level Certificate or equivalent
2. English 10 (60%) or equivalent
3. Math 10 (60%) or equivalent

5. The following will be required upon acceptance into the Program:	

    - CPR Level C Certificate (currency must be maintained throughout the program)	
    - First Aid Certification (such as St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid, or Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate)	
    - FoodSafe Level 1 Certificate	
    - Current immunization record (including annual influenza)*	
    - Negative TB testing result (completed within three months of the program start date)

		
Note(*): Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and strain to the health human resources, College of the Rockies will not require information of Immunization / First Aid / CPR requirements at present to complete your application.  However, as services have begun to open up, it is student's responsibility to continue actively seeking to obtain and complete these requirements. This information will be required at a later date once the COVID-19 pandemic is declared resolved.	

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. Criminal record check is to be conducted through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Records Review Program. Conviction of a criminal offense may influence admission to the program or access to employment opportunities. 	
	
2. If English is not your first language - a Standardized English language proficiency testing is required. Assessment to an acceptable level will determine program-entry eligibility. Please refer to the Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry at cachwr.bc.ca for current English competency requirements.	

Admission Advice

Applications will open in November. Admission is based upon a first qualified, first-admitted principle which is based on the date and time the applicant meets all admission requirements. Early application is therefore recommended.
