Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (when applying choose Option A)

NIC's four-year BSN degree is delivered in partnership with Vancouver Island University. In this program you'll gain hands-on experience in classrooms, simulation labs, clinical environments and community settings. **Option A**. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree

1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. English 12 (C+) or [equivalent](https://calendar.nic.bc.ca/content.php?catoid=24\&navoid=11103)
3. Math - one of:
   * Principles of Math 11 (C+)
   * Pre-calculus 11 (C+)
   * Applications of Math 12 (C+)
   * Foundations of Math 12 (C+)
4. Anatomy and Physiology 12 (C+) or [equivalent ](https://www.nic.bc.ca/programs/programs/health/bachelor-science-in-nursing-degree.html)(completed within the last 10 years)

**Option C**. Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) Access to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree

1. Completion of a recognized Practical Nursing (PN) program from a recognized institution
2. Transcripts as proof of meeting the same academic requirements as Option A applicants.
3. One-year full-time employment (1700-1800 hours) as practicing PN in BC over the past 3 years or equivalent
4. Letter from employer(s) confirming number of hours worked as an LPN over the past 3 years

1. Admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is through a selective admission process. Successful applicants are identified through the combined evaluation of GPA (based on program prerequisites) and a portfolio.
2. The number of qualified applicants normally exceeds the number of seats available. Therefore, meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission. Applicants are required to reapply annually for admission to the program, as applicants are not waitlisted for the following intake. 
3. North Island College has reserved seating and priority admissions for Indigenous students. To be considered for a priority seat, you must: 
   * Self-identify as an Indigenous person.
   * Complete the Indigenous Priority Admission Request for a Reserved Seat form.
   * Meet NIC's general admission requirements, and/or specific program requirements.
4. If accepted, you must:
   * Attend a mandatory group information session (normally in June).
   * Hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate (FAC-019) which must be taken within 6 months prior to entering the program, or equivalent.
   * Provide proof of having completed a Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) (WSF-019) course before the first day of classes.
   * Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum (PVPC) is mandatory for all staff and students who work in health authorities. Most of this training and learning will be completed online through the Learning Hub. Students working in a high-risk area are required to complete an additional 8-hour classroom module at your own cost, and prior to your placement in that area.&#x20;
   * Submit a completed immunization form validated by the public health nurse.
   * Submit a Criminal Record Check permission form so that NIC can get your Criminal Record Check done.
   * Review the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) approved requisite skills and abilities (RSA) to meet entry-level Registered Nurse competencies.

Admission Advice

Admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is through a selective admission process. Applications may be submitted starting 11 months before the intended program start date. Early application is recommended. Applications are open on the first business day in October. Students are accepted on a first applied, first qualified basis.
