The Early Childhood Care and Education Certificate allows you to make a difference in young children's lives by offering quality care and education for their growth and development. You'll specialize your skills by applying theory to pracitce with children aged 30 months to five years in diverse early care and learning environments. Priority admissions given to students of Indigenous ancestry.

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. Once accepted into the program and before classes begin, you will be required to:
   * Complete a Solicitor General Consent for Criminal Records Search form (the form will be sent to the student in the admission letter; processing costs will be incurred by the student)
   * Hold a current Child Care First Aid certificate OR take the required course during the first month of the program
   * Complete a Personal Immunization form, including a note from a physician or public health nurse at your local health unit stating that you have the mental and physical health to participate in the program
   * Submit two character reference letters (attesting to your good character, temperament and ability to work with children)
   * Submit a current resume
2. Priority admission for a selected number of self-declared Indigenous applicants is available to this program. For more information, please refer to NIC's Indigenous Education Services program page or contact an Indigenous educational advisor at your local campus.
3. If you are missing any requirement, upgrading courses are available at NIC to help you get started and meet all the prerequisites.

Admission Advice

Applications may be submitted starting 11 months before the intended program start date. Early application is recommended. Applications are open on the first business day in October. Students are accepted on a first applied, first qualified basis.
