The Bachelor of Technology Construction Management (BTech CM) degree equips you with the skills necessary to effectively manage construction projects of varying complexity and size by providing years 3 and 4 of a 4-year bachelor’s degree. You can enter the program through a few different pathways; including related or unrelated degree or diploma programs, trade certification and through demonstrated work experience in the construction industry. The program focuses on developing management, technical and interpersonal skills, while introducing practical tools and current approaches used in the industry to plan, manage and track construction projects from conception to completion. Upon graduation, you'll be able to advance to diverse career opportunities, coordinating and managing projects for general contractors, trade contractors, developers, owners, municipalities, public sector institutions and private clients.

The Construction Management program is available part-time and full-time as a planned program.

Applicants are accepted year-round for the part-time program. Applicants are accepted as of October 1st the year before, on a first-come, first-served basis for the full-time program, which runs from September to July and covers about 2/3 of the program’s credits. The remaining courses are completed through part-time studies.



This program has a two-step admission process. Applicants must meet all  and will be accepted on a first qualified basis as long as space remains.

Step 1: Pre-entry assessment

Applicants must have a pre-entry assessment meeting with the program head to identify admission requirements. Please contact the program head to make an appointment.

Step 2: Meet the following 

All applicants required to meet the following requirements in addition to one of the options (A, B, C, or D) described below:

English: two years of education in English in an English-speaking country with one of the following:
English Studies 12 (73%) or
English First Peoples 12 (73%) or
Other acceptable BC and Yukon courses or
3.0 credits of post-secondary English, humanities or social sciences (73%) from a recognized institution

Work experience: a minimum of twelve months relevant work experience prior to admission.

Note: A minimum of two years of work experience (including the twelve months required for program entry) is required prior to graduation. It is solely the student's responsibility to acquire the necessary relevant work experience.

Applicants who have completed post-secondary studies outside of Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia or New Zealand will require a comprehensive evaluation of their credentials by the International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES). Credential evaluation reports from other Canadian services may be considered. These reports must include course-by-course evaluations and GPA calculations.

Applicants must meet one of the following options A, B, C or D:

Option A

Post-secondary education in architecture or a related engineering discipline: successful completion of one of the following from a recognized institution:

Diploma
Bachelor’s degree (a master’s degree alone is not sufficient for admission)

Option B

Post-secondary education: successful completion one of the following from a recognized institution:

Minimum of the first two years of a university program in any discipline.

This must consist of a minimum of 60 post-secondary credits comprised of 30 credits at the 100 level and 30 credits at the 200 level. BCIT courses at the 7000- or 8000-level cannot be used for admission. Note that at BCIT 100-level courses begin with a “1” or a “2”; 200-level courses begin with a “3” or a “4”, or

A recognized but unrelated post-secondary diploma or bachelor’s degree.
Work experience: minimum of four years of experience in construction.

This experience must contain six elements from Group 1 and seven elements from Group 2 shown below. Successful completion of directly related coursework may be eligible as substitutes for certain elements of work experience. Contact the program head to discuss your particular situation.

Field/lab testing of materials
Working knowledge of recognized construction codes

Option C

Post-secondary education: successful completion of one of the following from a recognized institution:

Minimum of the first two years of a post-secondary program in any discipline. This must consist of a minimum of 60 post-secondary credits comprised of 30 credits at the 100 level and 30 credits at the 200 level. Unrelated post-secondary diploma or bachelor’s degree

Successful completion of the Associate Certificate in Construction Operations.

Students needing to complete the associate certificate for their  can register directly with that program and begin at their convenience.

Option D

A Certificate of Qualification with an Inter-Provincial Red Seal Endorsement in a related trade. Your apprenticeship training must have consisted of a minimum of 20 weeks of technical training over a four-year period, with a minimum of 30 hours of training per week. The Industry Training Authority maintains industry training program profiles for various trades.

At present, the following trades are accepted for admission: sheet metal worker, steamfitter/pipefitter, millwright (industrial mechanic), carpenter, electrician, plumber, welder level A, sprinkler system installer, boilermaker, refrigeration mechanic, and metal fabricator (fitter). Other trades may also be accepted; please contact the program head to make an appointment.

Math: one of the following:
Pre-Calculus 11 (60%) or
Foundations of Math 11 (60%) or
Workplace Math 11 (60%) or
Other acceptable BC and Yukon courses

Successful completion of the Associate Certificate in Construction Operations.

Students needing to complete the associate certificate for their  can register directly with that program and begin at their convenience.

Important notice regarding entry options C and D

The Bridging Courses have been revised and an Associate Certificate in Construction Operations is the current entrance requirement, effective January 2021.

All students currently registered in the bridging courses will have the option to:

Complete the bridging courses as agreed to, and documented, with the Program Head in the pre-entry assessment process, or
Complete the associate certificate

All students not yet registered in one of the bridging courses will be expected to provide the Associate Certificate in Construction Operations in order to meet the .

Continuation requirements

Minimum of two years of relevant work experience (which includes the six* months required for program entry) prior to graduation. Note: It is solely the student's responsibility to acquire the necessary relevant work experience.

*Effective for applications to the September 2021 intake, twelve months of relevant work experience will be required for program entry.

International applicants

The full-time delivery option is available to international applicants. A valid study permit is required prior to starting the program.

The part-time delivery option is available to international students who currently have a valid status in Canada. A valid study permit is required prior to starting the program.

Students enrolled in this program must complete the mandatory work component to qualify for graduation. A co-op work permit is required prior to starting the work component.

Academic Admission Requirement



Students must be proficient with MS Office programs; in particular, with Word and Excel.
