The Practical Nursing Diploma has the same body of nursing knowledge as registered nurses (RNs) and registered psychiatric nurses (RPNs) with a more focused approach to foundational knowledge, critical thinking, and clinical judgment appropriate to the role of a practical nurse. This program will provide you with the knowledge, skills, judgment, and abilities to contribute to all phases of care from prevention to acute treatment and management, to long term and palliative care. After successful completion of the program, you will be eligible to write the Regulatory Exam--Practical Nursing (REx-PN) to apply for licensure to become a Licensed Practical Nurse in British Columbia.

1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 (C+) or equivalent 
3. Math 11 (C) or equivalent
4. PNUR 101 (C+) or equivalent

Note:
- Anatomy and Physiology 12 (C) or equivalent is a prerequisite for PNUR 101. Camosun College's BIOL 150 and BIOL 151, or BIOL 152 and BIOL 153, or BIOL 143 and 144 may be used as equivalents to PNUR 101.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Upon acceptance into the program and before classes start, you will be required to:
    - Negative TB skin test or chest x-ray (no more than six months before the program start date)
    - Evidence of immunization status. (You are highly recommended to maintain current immunizations as per the Practice Education Guidelines of B.C.)
    - Current Standard First Aid Certification and including the airway management and oxygen therapy courses (BLS add-on courses) prior to the first semester of the program and must be maintained throughout the program
    - Have yearly respirator mask "fit-testing" done early (students are responsible for any associated costs);
    - Criminal Record Check (Camosun will send you information on how to complete your Criminal Record Check after you have been accepted to your program.)

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. Failure to comply with immunization guidelines could a student’s ability to successfully complete the clinical/practicum placement course and/or a clinical/practicum.

2. For program completion, students must complete all math requirements within the program without the aid of a calculator (in both written and practical testing situations as well as in Consolidated Practice Experiences).

Qualified applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Early application is recommended.

If you are a current Grade 12 at a Canadian high school, you can apply for conditional admission between September and May.
