The Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacology emphasizes the experimental and laboratory aspects of pharmacology. You'll learn both the whole-animal and isolated-tissue techniques, as well as biochemical and chemical procedures. Skills that are stressed include the ability to search for information, design appropriate experiments, carry out experiments individually and as a member of a team, analyze data, and communicate and write effectively. Graduates of the Pharmacology program often enter graduate programs in biological or health sciences.

Admission to the Major (Specialization) in Pharmacology occurs at the year-three level, following two years in basic undergraduate science. High School graduates should apply for entry to the Bachelor of Science, Faculty of Science. 

Students must be admitted into Bachelor of Science to pursue this program. 

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. English 12 and English 11 or their equivalents (70% in one of them)

3. Minimum six academic/non-academic Grade 12 courses (recommended)

4. Pre-Calculus 12 or equivalent (67%)

5. One of:
    - Anatomy and Physiology 12 or equivalent
     -Chemistry 12 or equivalent
    - Physics 12 or equivalent

6. Pre-Calculus 11 or Foundations of Math 12 or equivalent 

7. Chemistry 11 or equivalent 

8. Physics 11 or equivalent 

9. A Language 11 or Waiver (includes all second language courses, excludes introductory language 11 courses)

10. Grades presented in all relevant academic Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses that fall under these subject categories* will be looked at:
    - Language Arts
    - Mathematics & Computation
    - Sciences
        - *Note: There is no minimum number of courses required for admission, but you are encouraged to challenge yourself with a substantial number of courses that are relevant to your intended area of study.

1. Admission to the degree Major (Specialization) in Pharmacology occurs at the year-three level by application to the Department, following two years in basic undergraduate science. You will apply to Pharmacology prior to entering your third year of study in the Bachelor of Science program. If you meet all requirements for the Bachelor of Science Program (see the UBCV Academic Calendar for required 1st and 2nd year courses), arrange for an interview with the department’s undergraduate adviser. Selection of students will be based on academic performance and suitability for pharmacological research.

2. Applicants need to have obtained a minimum average of 75% in Year 1 of Science. In recent, years the academic average for admitted students has exceeded 85%. 

3. Entry to the Pharmacology Major is limited and competitive.

Admission Advice

Applications must be submitted for most programs by January for September entry. Early application is recommended. Confirm dates with UBCV.
