The Ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern Studies Bachelor of Arts Degree you will learn about the culture, history, and mythology of the ancient Mediterranean world, explore world religions in a comparative context, and investigate the history and material culture of the ancient Near East and ancient Egypt.

Students must be admitted into Bachelor of Arts to pursue this program.

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. English 12 and English 11 or their equivalents (70% in one of them)

3. Minimum six academic/non-academic Grade 12 courses (recommended)

4. Pre-Calculus 11 or Foundations of Math 12 or equivalent 

5. Any Science 11 or Science 12 course or equivalent 

6. A Language 11 or Waiver (includes all second language courses, excludes introductory language 11 courses)

7. Grades presented in all relevant academic Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses that fall under these subject categories* will be looked at:
    - Language Arts
    - Mathematics and Computation
    - Second Languages
    - Social Studies 
    - Visual and Performing Arts 
        - *Note: There is no minimum number of courses required for admission, but you are encouraged to challenge yourself with a substantial number of courses that are relevant to your intended area of study.

1. A Major in Ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern Studies requires the completion of 42 credits, at least 30 of which must be at the 300- or 400-level. Students are encouraged to consult with the Department’s Undergraduate Advisor and Advising Tools as early in their degree program as possible for guidance in planning a course of study that will best prepare them to achieve their academic and professional goals within the field.

2. Admission into the Honours program requires an overall average of 76% and the permission of the department. Students are expected to maintain an 80% average in the program. An Honours in Ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern Studies requires the completion of 60 credits, at least 48 of which must be at the 300- or 400-level. Courses must include 6 credits of AMNE 499 (Honours Thesis).

Applications must be submitted for most programs by January for September entry. Early application is recommended. Confirm dates with UBCV.
