The Livestock Production Certificate introduces you to the latest practices in animal breeding, nutrition, and health, including: pest biology; farm animal health and nutrition; equine, beef, sheep, goat, poultry, and swine management; farm safety; soils; and more. As part of the program, you also learn the fundamental business and writing skills required in the workplace. Graduates of this program are qualified to seek employment on farms, in related occupations as technicians, supplies representatives, and more.

1. High school graduation or equivalent 
 
2. English Studies 12 (C+) or [equivalent](https://www.ufv.ca/calendar/current/General/EnglishProficiency.htm) or Degree/Diploma Level English Language proficiency requirement
 
3. Math 11 or equivalent 
 
4. Science 11 or equivalent
 
Note: one of Life Sciences 11, Biology 11, or BIO 083 is strongly recommended. 

Academic Admission Requirement

1. This program has two intakes (program start dates) per year: September and January. If you would like to complete the program in two years, you should start in September. Students may enter this program in January. However, due to course scheduling and sequencing requirements, students starting in January may have to take some courses as a part-time student during an extra two semesters. Students should consult with the Agriculture department for more details.
 
2. In the absence of academic admission prerequisites, the Agriculture Technology department will also consider applicants if you can demonstrate a reasonable chance for success through a portfolio and/or interview.
 
3. Students are expected to be computer literate. This means knowing how to run programs from a Windows environment, and having basic internet, word processing, and spreadsheet skills. If you do not have these skills, you are advised to take an introductory computer course before they begin their studies in agriculture.
 
4. If you have allergies to dust, pollen or animal dander, you should be cautious of entering the program.
 
5. If you are a mature student without recent academic preparation, it is advised that you consult with the agriculture department about refresher courses in math, biology, etc. well before the program start date. UFV offers appropriate upgrading/qualifying courses.

Admission Advice

Application opening dates for specific intake applications:

Fall semester: October; Winter semester: May

Applications should be submitted as soon as possible after the first day to apply. Once applications are complete (all required documents have been received), an application date is recorded. Qualified applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
