The Social Service Worker Diploma prepares you for entry level in a variety of social service and health-related agencies, as well as for further education in Social Work and other helping professions. The program provides a combination of academic, experiential and community-based learning and focuses on the theory and practice of delivering basic social services. Upon graduation, you may find employment at family agencies, immigrant service agencies, rehabilitation centres, First Nations bands and councils, advocacy organizations, and government, among others.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Social Service Worker supplemental application form (available at the Registrar's Office or on the Web)
2. Interview with program faculty member
3. Paid or volunteer work related to the social services (preferably at least 40 hours)

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. It is the responsibility of program applicants to contact the Social Service Worker department to set up the interview.
2. Preference is given to candidates who are at least 21 years old by the time they enter the program. Opportunities for required practicum placement (ie - practical work experiences) for students under 21 years old are limited.
3. Once accepted, you will be required to complete a criminal record check (CRC). This criminal record check must be submitted to the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General. The link to access the consent form to be submitted to the Ministry will be emailed to each applicant upon acceptance.

Admission Advice

Applications may be submitted starting 11 months before the intended program start date. Early application is recommended.		
		
The deadline to submit a complete application in order to be admitted for the fall, spring, or summer semesters is the first day of classes for that program-entry semester. A complete application includes a completed application form, application fee payment, and any supporting documents required. No applications will be accepted after the deadline date.
