The Bachelor of Interior Design (IDSN) program provides students wishing to pursue a professional career in interior design with a four-year intensive education focused on the built environment. KPU's Interior Design degree has been accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) since 2000. As the first accredited program in British Columbia, our CIDA accreditation continues to ensure that our curriculum meets and exceeds industry standards and helps students build the foundation to become a registered interior designer.

Academic Admission Requirement

    - Answer a Questionnaire

    - Three letters of reference
    - Photocopies of school transcripts or credentials
    - Examples of your visual communication skills
    - Examples of your production skills
    - Examples of your creative work

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. Once you have submitted your online application to KPU, you will receive instructions on how to submit your portfolio package through an online submission platform. Click here for more information on application process. Please be aware there may be a supplemental fee required to submit your portfolio.

2. To help you create the most effective portfolio possible, the School offers workshops, feedback sessions and open houses.  These sessions allow you to ask questions about the program and review portfolios of current students. Click here for dates and times.

3. Your letters of reference should describe your passion for design, teamwork skills, communication skills, time management, etc.

4. Your resume should describe any work or volunteer history, education, technical knowledge, skills and abilities.

5. Examples of your visual communication skills can be drawing and/or 3-dimensional skills. You may want to include sketches, sketchbooks, drawings, model-making, painting, drafting, or anything that shows your ability to communicate visually.

6. Examples of your production skills must show your approach to making things, your attitude toward your work, attention to details, and how you put things together. You may want to include, prints, pottery, poster-making, built items, model-making, furniture-making, or layouts.

7. Examples of your creative work should demonstrate your thinking process, ability to problem-solve, and curiosity across a variety of pieces. These can include paintings, drawings, photographs, jewelry, models or sculptures, or anything else you have 'designed' or 'created'. Written descriptions must be included along with your creative work.

8. Eligible applicants who have met the application, documentation, and portfolio submission requirements will be contacted for an interview. During the portfolio and interview process, faculty members evaluate each applicant for suitability for admission based on the contents of the portfolio and results of an interview (including prior learning assessments). 

9. If you are unable to satisfy the English proficiency requirement to enter the undergraduate program at KPU, you may be able to begin your studies through the Faculty’s pathway program. It may give you the option of taking English proficiency upgrading courses, while simultaneously taking a limited number of undergraduate courses at KPU before becoming eligible for admission to undergraduate studies.
