The Bachelor of Education in Trades and Technology allows you to bring your skills from the worksite and lead a classroom as a trades and technology high school teacher. Prepare for teaching with course topics like classroom information technology, adolescent learning and development, literacy across content areas, practicums and more.

1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. Completion of the Prior Learning Assessment Recognition (PLAR) process to provide you with academic credits for a three-year trades training program or 60 academic credits of a four-year trades training program
3. A Canadian Interprovincial Trades Qualification (Red Seal) or equivalent recognized or issued by the BC Industry Training Authority (ITA)
4. Six credits of English at the post-secondary level (including both literature and composition)
5. Math 12 or equivalent

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Minimum 100 hours of relevant volunteer or paid experience working with groups of elementary school-aged children. A minimum of 25 of these hours are required to be with middle school or high school aged students in group settings
2. Minimum 5 years of post-Trade Qualification experience in a trade, within the past 10 years, that is directly applicable to Technology Education subject areas in the BC secondary school curriculum (such as drafting, electronics and robotics, metalwork, power technology, or woodwork)
3. Two reference report forms (must be sent directly to TRU Admissions Office)
4. 300-word Letter of Introduction/Intent 
-Describe why you want to become a teacher
-Provide your reasons for choosing the TRU BEd program
-Any additional information you feel is pertinent to your application

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. Admission is competitive. You are encouraged to obtain broader post-secondary studies, greater subject preparation, and higher grades than the minimum standards outlined.

2. Your resume should include documentation of trades-related employment and work experience, indicating at least 5 years of journeypreson work and/or teaching experience in the last 10 years.

3. It's important to contact TRU's Academic Advising Department to confirm admission requirements and ensure you select appropriate courses for entry into the Bachelor of Education Degree.
