The Respiratory Therapy Dual Credential: Diploma and Bachelor of Health Science Degree allows you to expand your career options as a respiratory therapist. Graduate with both a three-year Respiratory Therapy diploma and a Bachelor of Health Science degree within a four-year period in the dual diploma/degree stream. Year one is the same for both the RT diploma and dual credential. This program teaches you the latest in respiratory care theory and provides you with the active, hands-on laboratory experience you need to succeed as a respiratory therapist.

Students must be admitted into, or graduates of, a minimum two-year health care diploma program.

1. High school graduation or equivalent (C+ overall average)
2. English 12 (73%) or equivalent
3. Pre-calculus 12 (C+) or equivalent
4. Biology 12 (C+) or equivalent
5. Chemistry 12 (C+) or equivalent
6. Physics 11 (C+) or equivalent

Note: admission prerequisites should preferably have been obtained within five years of application.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. The following will be required, if accepted into the program:
-attend the program Information Session (Contact resp@tru.ca for more details)
-completed CPR Level C with AED Certificate 
-complete an immunization forms (forms will be emailed to you)
-provide proof of a successful Criminal Record Check



Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. Out-of-the-province students can click here to see Canadian secondary school course equivalencies for admission prerequisites. 

2. If your high school or post-secondary education was not completed in Canada (regardless of residency or citizenship), you are required to complete the following:

-TOEFL, IELTS or the Language Proficiency test (see TRU's English Language Proficiency Requirements for Academic Study)
-An assessment of your credentials by an international credential assessment agency

3. While admission criteria are the same as the regular Respiratory Therapy Diploma, admission to the dual track program is determined by a selective process based on academic qualifications. Applicants with prior post-secondary education are more likely to be considered, ranked on a basis of education and cumulative GPA. Factors that may be considered include:

-Prior one-to-two years post-secondary education or undergraduate degree (preferably in the sciences) with a CGPA (Cumulative GPA) = 2.33.
-GPA in high school and post-secondary education
-The number of years of post-secondary education
-The number of successfully (C+ or greater) completed post-secondary science courses

Admission Advice

Applications are open on October and must be submitted by February.

Note: completed applications which are received before the application deadline may be considered for early review.

The supporting document deadline, including high school and post-secondary transcripts, is the same date as the application deadline or within 10 days of submission of the application.
