The Adventure Guide Diploma is a fast-paced study comprised of field trips, outdoor skills instruction, and self-directed expeditions. Courses cover a wide range of adventure activities and theoretical topics. Field trips make up 60 percent of the course load. The field portion of your classes access BC’s exceptional recreational resources for whitewater and ocean pursuits, climbing and skiing. The diploma transfers into Adventure Studies concentrations in the Bachelor of Tourism Management degree (BTM) or the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) degree for students who wish to complete a degree.

1. Completion of TRU's Adventure Guide Certificate
2. High school graduation or equivalent

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Minimum 19 years of age by the start of the program
2. Attendance at a program information session (in person or by phone)
3. Completion of the Adventure Guide Diploma Student Information Form (in addition to submitting an online application to TRU)
4. Attendance at an admissions interview
5. Personal resume and cover letter (explaining why you wish to move into the program and how the program will help you attain your goals)
6. Letter of Intent outlining the skills and experiences you gained in the Adventure Guide Certificate and how these have had a positive effect on your learning, leadership, professionalism, your peers, instructors and the program as a whole
7. Summer work practicum plans and explain how they fit into your educational and career goals
8. Outdoor Experience Log (all outdoor experiences outside of course time during the past year)

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

1. You must possess medical coverage and will be required to have additional coverage for any course held in foreign countries, including the US.

2.  Entry is competitive and applications are screened to ensure an adequate level of outdoor recreation experience has been attained prior to entry to TRU. The department will review and consider student transcripts and GPA from the last year (Adventure Guide Certificate).

Admission Advice

TRU begins accepting applications in October. Qualified applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Early application is strongly recommended.
