VIU offers the first year of a four-year Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics. You can transfer to the University of British Columbia (UBC) or the University of Victoria (UVic) after the first year. You'll gain training in quantitative thinking, problem solving, modeling, and experimental techniques.

1. One of:

- High school graduation (or equivalent) with English 12 or English 12 First Peoples (C)
- A university degree
- Be a visiting student from a college or university (a “Letter of Permission” from home institution required)
- Be a transfer student from a college or university with at least 24 university transfer credits
- Mature student status (be at least 21 years old in your first semester) and English 12 or English 12 First Peoples (C)

Note: If you don't meet any of the admission categories, you may be admitted as an ""Unclassified Student"" to register into university-level courses which you meet the prerequisites. You will register after other students, so course availability will be limited.


Academic Admission Requirement

1. Aside from program entry/admission requirements, there are also specific course registration requirements (called prerequisites) which are listed within VIU’s course description. Prerequisite = Course that must be successfully completed prior to registering in a given course.
2. Most courses in this program have specific prerequisites. In particular, make sure you have completed the prerequisites in Biology, Chemistry, Computing Science, English, Math and Physics. For instance, Principles of Math 12 or Pre-Calculus 12 with at least a "B" grade (or equivalent) is a prerequisite for most Math courses.
3. This program offers the first year of a four-year Bachelor of Science in Physics. Students may transfer courses completed in this program to other universities by checking the admission and program requirements of the receiving institutions.

Admission Advice

Applications are accepted for September entry from the first business day in October to March. Early application is recommended.
