The Education Assistant and Community Support Certificate includes both theoretical studies and practical applications for working with people who have disabilities, across the life span. The core and specialty courses provide students with the skills and knowledge to work in schools and community.

1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. English 12 (C) or equivalent

Note: If you don't meet any of the admission categories, you may be admitted as an ""Unclassified Student"" to register into university-level courses which you meet the prerequisites. You will register after other students, so course availability will be limited.




Academic Admission Requirement




1. Group interview
2. Two letters of reference
3. Resume and cover letter
4. Volunteer or paid experience working with people who are mentally, physically or behaviourally challenged is recommended
5. Upon acceptance into the program:

A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required prior to placement in field experience and/or practicum placements. A check completed through the RCMP is not sufficient to meet the requirements.
A letter from a family physician attesting to your suitability for the program may be required


Additional Academic Admission Requirement



1. For admission to the program, applicants will be assessed on past academic achievement, related volunteer/paid employment, writing skills, and performance at an interview with faculty.


Admission Advice

The program is delivered at both the Nanaimo and Powell River campuses. The Nanaimo campus program starts in September. Intakes for Powell River Campus can vary from year to year based on demand.

Applications are accepted for September entry from the first business day in October to March 31 (for the Nanaimo intake). Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis for the Powell River intake. Early application is recommended.
