Associate of Science Degrees are awarded to students who complete at least 60 credits of university program courses, and obtain an average overall grade of “C”, as well as meeting the additional requirements for each associate degree. Students who qualify for an associate degree must submit an application to graduate.

1. One of:
- High school graduation (or equivalent) with English 12 (C) or equivalent
- Completion of a university degree
- Visiting student from a college or university (a "Letter of Permission" from the home institution is required)
- Transfer student from a college or university with at least 24 university transfer credits
- Mature student status (be at least 21 years old in your first semester) with English 12 (C) or equivalent

Note: If you don't meet any of the admission categories, you may be admitted as an "Unclassified Student" to register into university-level courses which you meet the prerequisites. You will register after other students, so course availability will be limited.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. There are also specific course registration requirements (called prerequisites) which are listed within VIU’s course description. Prerequisite = Course that must be successfully completed prior to registering in a given course. For course registration and program completion purposes, you will need to meet the prerequisites for individual Arts and/or Science courses in the program.

2. Adult Basic Education (ABE) upgrading courses are available if you are missing course prerequisites.

Admission Advice

Applications are accepted for September entry from the first business day in October to March. Early application is recommended.
