The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Recreation and Health Education allows you to study the impact that recreation has on health, society and quality of life. You'll learn how to plan and facilitate quality wellness experiences and prepare for work in recreation and health promotion. Support social change through work in public and not-for-profit sectors.

Option A: Year One Entry

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. All of the following Grade 12 courses:
    - English 12 (67%) or equivalent 
    - Three approved academic 12 courses

3. All of the following Grade 11 courses:
    - English 11 or equivalent
    - Foundations of Mathematics 11 or Pre-calculus 11 or equivalent
    - Science 11 or equivalent
    - Social Studies 11/12 or equivalent

Estimated admission average: 84%

Or

Option B: Year-Two Entry (Applicants Transferring from Other Faculties or Institutions)

1. One of:

If you have attempted less than 8 university-level courses, you need to meet the admission requirements for secondary school graduates (as detailed above), AND at least 4.0 (""B-"") grade point average on all university-level attempted; 

If you have attempted 8 or more university-level courses, you need at least 4.0 ("B-") grade point average on the most recently completed 8 courses. 

Note: For students currently registered in less than 12 units (or 8 courses), the GPA will be determined by using a combination of the GPA achieved in the current session and the GPA from the previous session (to reach the 8-course minimum total).

Academic Admission Requirement

1. All applicants to UVic (regardless of country of origin or citizenship status) are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission. You can choose one of several ways to demonstrate language proficiency. You are not required to provide proof of language proficiency if you have studied full time for at least four years within Canada at the high school and/or post-secondary level, and all of your instruction has been in English.

2. Aside from program entry/admission requirements, there are also specific course registration requirements (called prerequisites) which are listed within UVic’s course description. Many of the required university courses in this Program have secondary school course prerequisites. Students should take a minimum of: Biology 11, Chemistry 11 (Chemistry 12 is recommended), Principles of Math 12 or Pre-Calculus 12, and Physics 11 (Physics 12 is recommended).

3. At UVic, the value of courses is given in units. Most courses at UVic that run for one term count for 1.5 units per course. For example, 3 UVIC units are equivalent to two (half-year) courses or 6 credits at most BC colleges and universities. If you are transferring from a university or college in British Columbia you can look-up your potential transfer credits using the BC Transfer Guide. 

4. Admission is competitive as enrolment to this Program is limited. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to this program. Approximately 30 students are admitted into the BA Recreation and Health Education program (these totals are for all types of entries). 


Admission Advice

Applications must be submitted by the following dates for program entry in September
			

- Year-One entry: January 31			
- Year-Two or later entry: January 31;			
- All requirements for admission must be completed by April 30 and documented with UVic by May 31.
