This instructional program class comprises any program that focuses on the general study of dramatic works and their performance. These programs include courses in major works of dramatic literature, dramatic styles and types, and the principles of organizing and producing full live or filmed productions.

Theatre Bachelor's Degrees

Workers in other technical and coordinating occupations in motion pictures, broadcasting and the performing arts coordinate and perform specific activities for television, radio and motion picture productions, news broadcasts, theatre and stage productions, and other live or recorded productions. They are employed by television and radio stations and networks, recording studios, motion picture and video production companies, concert promoters and theatre, stage and dance companies.

Theatre, fashion, exhibit and other creative designers conceptualize and produce designs for film, television, theatre and video productions, garments and textiles, displays and exhibits, and for other creative items such as jewellery and trophies. Theatre designers are employed by performing arts and broadcasting companies and by festivals; fashion designers are employed by clothing and textile companies or may be self-employed; and exhibit designers are employed by museums. Other creative designers in this unit group are employed by manufacturing establishments or may be self-employed.

Theatre Diplomas

The Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre offers two main Theatre streams: Performance, and Production and Design. You will take courses in acting, voice and directing; or technical production, lighting and stage design. Studio courses are supplemented by courses in dramatic literature, theatre history, playmaking, and technical theatre. For both streams, you will put on shows throughout your four years, giving you the experience to go on to work with recognized theatre companies, or launch your own.

Theatre: Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree - Major or Honours

The Bachelor of Arts, Major in Theatre Arts provides a variety of undergraduate courses designed for both theatre specialists and the generalist. Acting, from first to fourth year levels, directing, theatre history and technical theatre courses offer you a full range of theatre options. In addition, theatre students can acquire credit through their participation and performance in several major productions staged by the department each year.

Theatre Arts: Bachelor of Arts Degree - Major

The Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Design and Production provides the practical experience as well as completing scholarly studies in theatre history and theory. You'll examine set, costume, lighting, and sound design, including set and costume construction, stage and production management, and other production technologies. Coursework is offered in construction, scenic art, stage lighting, properties, stage management, and design. The program normally begins in your second year of university and takes three years to complete. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared for entry-level jobs in commercial theatre or for more advanced training in graduate school.

Theatre Design and Production: Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (UBCV)

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre Studies is about theatre studies, acting, and technical theatre as you take courses in drama forms, voice and movement, lighting design, history of theatre, sound design, and much more. As part of your studies you'll participate in the department's dramatic productions. Graduates go on to a multitude of career paths, including but not limited to director, playwright, dramaturge, producer, educator, arts administration, front of house manager, and curator.

Theatre Studies: Bachelor of Arts Degree - Major or Honours (UBCV)

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre integrates performance studies and creative practice to ensure you have a strong and diverse foundation in theatre. You'll acquire a deep understanding of the history and theory of performance and develop a high standard of competence in the practical, technical, and collaborative aspects of theatre. You'll participate in theatre productions throughout the program and have the opportunity to study theatre in relation to other media. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared to work in the performing arts or to apply your skills to other professions like business, journalism, teaching, and more.

Theatre: Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree - Major

The Bachelor of Fine Arts - Theatre Transfer allows students to be able to complete up to two years towards an undergraduate degree at VIU and apply to the University of Victoria, University of British Columbia, or Simon Fraser University for two more years of study.
