To work as a medical sonographer in B.C., you may choose to register with Sonography Canada. For those educated in Canada, eligibility is achieved by completing an accredited sonography program and successfully undergoing Sonography Canada examinations.

Medical sonographers

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians, to utilize medical ultrasound techniques to gather sonographic data used to diagnose a variety of conditions and diseases. These programs include courses in obtaining, reviewing, and integrating patient histories and data; patient instruction and care; anatomic, physiologic and pathologic data recording; sonographic data processing; sonography equipment operation; and professional standards and ethics.

Sonography Advanced Diplomas

Medical sonographers operate ultrasound equipment to produce and record images of various parts of the body to aid physicians in monitoring pregnancies and in diagnosing cardiac, ophthalmic, vascular and other medical disorders. They are employed in clinics and hospitals. Medical sonographers who are supervisors or instructors are included in this unit group.

To work in an accounting-related profession in B.C., you may choose to earn the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. Eligibility for this designation is achieved through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in any subject from a Canadian or international university and required prerequisite courses. 

Employment as a senior manager in health, education, social, community services and membership organizations may additionally require several years of related work experience.

To work as a medical laboratory technologist in B.C., you may choose to register with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science. Eligibility is achieved by completing an accredited medical laboratory program and successfully writing the CSMLS Certification Exam.
