To work as a strata property manager in B.C., you must have a licence issued by the BC Financial Services Authority. Eligibility is achieved by successful completion of the Strata Management Licensing course at UBC, finding a brokerage to approve your licence, completion of a criminal record check and submitting your application.

Property administrators

To work as a real estate professional assisting consumers in buying, selling, or leasing property in B.C, you must be licensed to provide trading services (real estate sales) through the BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA). Eligibility is achieved through completion of the Real Estate Trading Services Licensing course and beginning the Applied Practical course.

Employment as a real estate service manager may additionally require several years of related work experience.

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to develop, buy, sell, appraise, and manage real estate. These programs include courses in land use development policy, real estate law, real estate marketing procedures, agency management, brokerage, property inspection and appraisal, real estate investing, leased and rental properties, commercial real estate, and property management.

Assessors and appraisers determine the value of land, businesses, estates and other real property, for purposes of sale, purchase, taxation or disposal of assets. Appraisers also determine the value of personal and household items. Business valuators quantify the value of a business, its securities or its intangible assets.  Assessors, business valuators and appraisers are employed by government agencies, real estate firms and other private companies, or they may be self-employed.

Property administrators perform administrative duties and coordinate activities related to the management and rental of investment property and real estate on behalf of property and strata property owners. They are employed by property, real estate and strata services management companies, property development companies and by government.

Real estate agents and salespersons act as agents for the sale or purchase of houses, apartments, commercial buildings, land and other real estate. They are employed in the real estate industry.

Individual Courses in Real Estate Licensing and Registration

The Program is a sophisticated, technical and specialized program. It has been designed for practitioners already employed in the real estate industry who want to upgrade their education, and for highly-motivated people seeking to join the industry. The Program is designed for flexibility. Most courses are offered two or three times per year. Students can complete the program at a pace that best suits their busy schedules. By taking one course per term, the Program can be completed in just two years, although students can accelerate completion to one year by taking more than one course per semester.

Real Property Assessment Certificate - UBCV

The Post-Graduate Certificate in Real Property Valuation program (PGCV) has been developed in a partnership between the UBC Real Estate Division and the Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC). The PGCV program is primarily intended to be a bridging program for graduates of business schools across Canada, offering these graduates a clear career development path and encouraging them to join the real property valuation profession. The program has been specifically requested by the Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC), the pre-eminent accrediting body for appraisers across Canada, and has been developed in close consultation with AIC administration and members of the valuation profession.

Real Property Valuation UBC/AIC Post-Graduate Certificate - UBCV

The Appraisal Institute of Canada and UBC Real Estate Division are pleased to offer the Certificate Program in Residential Valuation leading to the Canadian Residential Appraiser (CRA) designation. The Certificate in Residential Valuation program is the primary means for AIC candidates to earn the CRA. Candidates with university degrees and who meet the program prerequisites are fast-tracked to the CRA designation. The Certificate also introduces a new elective course to help candidates target their employment goals.
