Power Engineering 5th Class Programs

The Power and Process Engineering program provides you with strong practical skills and technical knowledge to challenge the government examinations for an interprovincial certification. After successful completion of first year, students qualify to challenge the government exams for the 4th Class Power Engineer’s Certificate of Competency.

Power and Process Engineering: Diploma

The Power Engineer program prepares students to operate, maintain and manage industrial power and process plants. These plants are associated with various industries such as pulp and paper, chemical manufacturing, food processing, electrical generation, petroleum refining, institutional mechanical systems and others.  Because of the potential danger of explosions, power engineers must be highly trained and certified. Power Engineers operate, maintain and manage industrial power and process plants. These plants are associated with various industries such as pulp and paper, chemical manufacturing, food processing, electrical generation, petroleum refining, institutional mechanical systems and others.  Because of the potential danger of explosions, power engineers must be highly trained and certified. Provincial regulations require plant personnel be certified prior to assuming positions of responsibility in the operation of fired pressure equipment.

Certification is based on plant experience and supervised exams administered by the provincial safety authority such as Technical Safety BC.

Power Engineering (General Program): Certificate

Power Engineering (4th Class) Certificate

The Power Engineering Certificate takes you through 4th Class Power Engineering and 210 hours of firing time on the NLC Boiler. Upon completion, you will qualify for the Technical Safety BC Examinations by successfully completing Parts A and B of the 4th Class Power Engineering component of the NLC program. The focus is to provide knowledge and practical skills needed to function effectively in the industry.

The Power Engineering Technology 4th Class Certificate allows you to maintain and operate heating and power plants, refrigeration systems and auxiliary equipment like pumps, compressors, steam turbines, electrical generators, cooling towers and water treatment systems. Gain the knowledge and skills needed to earn the 4th Class Power Engineering Certification through Technical Safety BC, and work as a 4th Class Power Engineer.

Power Engineering Technology Certificate

The Power Engineering/Process Operator (4th Class) Certificate Program prepares graduates for employment as power engineers, able to operate, maintain, and manage industrial power and processing plants. This full-time program includes theory and extensive training in an industry workplace practicum. Upon successful completions, graduates will have the knowledge and hands-on experience to challenge the Technical Safety BC standardized examinations for an Interprovincial Fourth Class Power Engineer's Certificate of Competency. The program also prepares graduates with technical knowledge required for a process operator.
