This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to serve as legal office managers, special assistants, and legal secretaries. These programs include courses in office management, secretarial science, principles of U.S. or Canadian law, legal terminology and documentation, legal research, legal software applications, law office procedures, record keeping, billing, applicable policies and regulations, and professional standards and ethics.

Legal administrative assistants perform a variety of secretarial and administrative duties in law offices, legal departments of large firms, real estate companies, land title offices, municipal, provincial and federal courts and government.

The Legal Office Assistant Certificate provides you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to function in entry level support roles in a variety of legal, government and general business environments. You will develop skills to thrive in a variety of office environments coupled with broad legal and procedural knowledge, abilities, and perspectives that are in demand in a variety of legal settings. You will be supported through coursework, facilitated networking opportunities, and integration of workplace learning experiences while completing the program.

Legal Administrative Professional Certificate

The Legal Administrative Assistant (LAA) Certificate provides the core procedures for civil and family law litigation, wills and probate, corporate law, real estate conveyancing and mortgaging. Your classroom skill training will prepare you for proper handling of legal documents and a comprehensive understanding of legal terminology and court systems. Before successful completion of your certificate, you'll gain hands-on practice in a law firm or legal department working alongside lawyers, paralegals and legal administrative assistants and benefiting from their mentorship and experience with legal office procedures.

Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate

The Legal Administrative Studies Certificate provides students with training in general and specialized administrative support procedures which are utilized in today's legal offices. It is a full-time program with two terms of study starting in September. Subjects covered include general office procedures, wills and estates, corporate records, civil litigation, family law, and conveyancing. In addition, students will become knowledgeable in word processing skills.

Legal Administrative Studies Certificate

The Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate focuses on the legal office work ethic and professionalism expected of legal administrative assistants. You'll gain expertise in legal office procedures to begin a career in a legal, government, or real estate office. You can choose to focus on Litigation or Corporate/Conveyancing, or take both programs. You will also acquire the legal office work ethic and professionalism expected of legal administrative assistants.

The Legal Administrative Assistant certificate provides the skills and knowledge to work with legal documents relating to corporate law, conveyancing, litigation, family law, wills, and estates. You will learn creation, editing, storage, and filing of legal documents and correspondence; legal administrative procedures in the areas of corporate law, conveyancing, litigation, family law, and wills and estates; time management and priority setting; keyboarding, proofreading, and audio transcription; independent and collaborative problem solving; effective communication, and confidentiality.

The Legal Studies Certificate blends courses that develop essential writing, speaking and critical thinking skills with courses which offer more law-content specific focus. This credential is designed for you if you are already enrolled, or intending to enroll, in a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Business Administration degree program. You will select from a variety of eligible courses to fit with your interest and your BA or BBA major or minor. This Certificate will appeal to students wishing to continue onto law school or graduate work in law and policy and to individuals interested in careers where there are significant legal issues.
