This instructional program class comprises any program that focuses on the theory and practice of gathering, processing, and delivering news and that prepares individuals to be professional print journalists, news editors, and news managers. These programs include courses in news writing and editing; reporting; photojournalism; layout and graphic design; journalism law and policy; professional standards and ethics; research methods; and journalism history and criticism.

Journalism, general

This instructional program class comprises any program that focuses on the methods and techniques for reporting, producing, and delivering news and news programs via radio, television, and video/film media; and that prepares individuals to be professional broadcast journalists, editors, producers, directors, and managers. These programs include courses in the principles of broadcast technology; broadcast reporting; on- and off-camera and microphone procedures and techniques; program, sound, and video/film editing; program design and production; media law and policy; and professional standards and ethics.

Advertising and Public Relations Managers

Advertising and Public Relations Practitioners

Supervisors of library, correspondence and related information workers supervise and coordinate the activities of workers in the following unit groups: Survey interviewers and statistical clerks (14110), Library assistants and clerks (14300), and Correspondence, publication and regulatory clerks (14301). They are employed throughout the public and private sectors.

Correspondence, publication and regulatory clerks write correspondence, proofread material for accuracy, compile material for publication, verify, record and process forms and documents, such as applications, licences, permits, contracts, registrations and requisitions, and perform other related clerical duties in accordance with established procedures, guidelines and schedules. They are employed by newspapers, periodicals, publishing firms and by establishments throughout the private and public sectors.

Managers in publishing, motion pictures, broadcasting and performing arts plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate operations within publishing firms, film, theatre and record production companies and broadcasting facilities. They are employed by radio and television stations, by newspaper, periodical and book publishing firms, and by film, theatre, record and video production companies.

Journalists research, investigate, interpret and communicate news and public affairs through newspapers, television, radio and other media. They are employed by radio and television networks and stations, newspapers and magazines. Journalists may also work on a freelance basis.

Journalism Certificates

The Broadcast and Online Journalism Diploma will help you develop interviewing skills and announcing techniques, hone your writing, and learn how to deliver compelling news stories. Courses and experiences, including industry internships, are designed to give you the ability and confidence to start and succeed in your journalism career. You'll take courses in video journalism and editing, news reporting and writing, on-air performance, web design, and more. After graduation, you'll be prepared to find work in online and in traditional print, TV, and radio journalism. 

Broadcast and Online Journalism: Diploma

The Journalism Diploma is intended for those with or without previous post-secondary experience, in which you will take a combination of journalism, communications, and liberal arts courses. There will be a mandatory foundation of introductory journalism and communications courses. You will also have the choice to concentrate on advanced journalism, advanced communications, as well as non-journalism subjects. Journalism Diploma

The Communications, Culture, and Journalism Studies Diploma provides the foundations of media and writing, and explore the functions of news and communications media, the history of journalism, and cultural policy and theory. Particular attention will be paid to questions of social justice, as well as of identity and constructions of gender, race, class, sexuality, and nationality. While you may proceed directly to potential entry-level careers in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, advertising, research, writing, publishing, consulting or new media, especially in small markets and independent digital environments, completion of this program is intended primarily to provide you with the liberal arts education necessary for further study.
