Hotel front desk clerks

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to serve as general managers and directors of hospitality operations on a system-wide basis, including both travel arrangements and promotion and the provision of traveller facilities. These programs include courses in principles of operations in the travel and tourism, hotel and lodging facilities, food services, and recreation facilities industries; hospitality marketing strategies; hospitality planning; management and coordination of franchise and unit operations; business management; accounting and financial management; hospitality transportation and logistics; and hospitality industry policies and regulations.

Conference and event planners plan, organize and coordinate conferences, conventions, meetings, seminars, exhibitions, trade shows, festivals and other events. They are employed by tourism associations, trade and professional associations, convention and conference centres, governments and by conference and event planning companies, or they may be self-employed.

Accommodation service managers plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of an accommodation establishment or of a department within such an establishment. They are employed by hotels, motels, resorts, student residences and other accommodation establishments, or they may be self-employed.

Food service supervisors supervise, direct and coordinate the activities of workers who prepare, portion and serve food. They are employed by hospitals and other health care establishments and by cafeterias, catering companies and other food service establishments.

Accommodation, travel, tourism and related services supervisors supervise and coordinate the activities of hotel accommodation service clerks, casino workers, reservation clerks and other travel and accommodations workers not elsewhere classified. They are employed by service establishments throughout the public and private sectors.

Other services supervisors supervise and coordinate the activities of dry cleaning, laundry, ironing, pressing and finishing workers, theatre ushers and attendants, spa, sports and recreation club workers, commissionaires, security guards and other service workers. They are employed by service establishments throughout the public and private sectors.

Hotel front desk clerks make room reservations, provide information and services to guests and receive payment for services. They are employed by hotels, motels and resorts.

The Hospitality Management Diploma program provides a foundation for advancement of personal and organizational leadership and supervisory skills, and opportunities to deepen business acumen. Students develop the ability to collaborate with others and manage operations and staff in diverse, fast-paced environments. They learn to integrate sustainable practices into hospitality management to ensure operations effectively balance economic, social, and environmental goals. Two paid work terms are integral to this immersive experience. Students gain valuable exposure to the breadth of career options and varied roles available in the hospitality industry.

The Hospitality Management Diploma provides you with marketing and management principles associated with lodging and restaurant operations. This program offers an opportunity to expand your marketing and management knowledge and practice so you’ll be ready for further education or management training programs. You'll also have the option to participate in the Business Internship Program.

Hospitality and Food Service Systems Management Diploma

**Students interested in the diploma must apply to the Bachelor of Hospitality Management. **

The Hospitality Management Diploma allows you to acquire hospitality knowledge through a blend of classroom learning, and experiential activities in an on-campus dining room, in teaching kitchens and participation in special events. You'll be required to complete two paid co-operative work placements where they apply their learning at resorts throughout British Columbia and Alberta. The program is designed to prepare students for a wide range of supervisory and management positions in the tourism industry.
