Sports officials and referees

To work as a ski instructor in B.C., you may need to be registered with the Canadian Ski Instructors' Alliance (CSIA). Eligibility is achieved by passing each of the four levels of Instructor Certification and a Trainer Designation.

To work as a personal trainer in B.C., you may need to have Personal Trainer Certification through the BC Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA). Eligibility is achieved by completing a core specialty prerequisite, completion of an advanced specialty module, a specialty exam, and completion of an instructor competency evaluation.

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of engineers and other professionals engaged in maintaining job-related health and safety standards. These programs include courses in safety engineering principles, inspection and monitoring procedures, testing and sampling procedures, laboratory techniques, applications to specific work environments, and report preparation.

Occupational safety and health technology/technician

This instructional program class comprises any program not listed above that relates to Health-related knowledge and skills.

Health and Safety Micro-credentials

Sports officials and referees observe and enforce rules and regulations governing sporting events, athletic games and sports competitions. They are employed by national, provincial and local sporting commissions, organizations and leagues.

Program leaders and instructors in recreation, sport and fitness lead and instruct groups and individuals in recreational, sports, fitness or athletic programs. Fitness appraisers conduct fitness tests and assessments and design, develop and deliver fitness programs. They are employed by community centres, sports and fitness clubs, outdoor centres, resorts, recreational facilities, health care facilities, retirement homes, correctional institutions, government departments, private businesses, tourism associations and similar establishments.

Pursers and flight attendants ensure the safety and comfort of passengers and crew members during flights. Ship pursers attend to the safety and comfort of passengers aboard ships. Airline pursers and flight attendants are employed by airline companies. Ship pursers are employed by tour boat or cruise ship companies.

Bus drivers, subway operators and other transit operators drive buses and operate streetcars, subway trains and light rail transit vehicles to transport passengers on established routes. Bus drivers are employed by urban transit systems, school boards or transportation authorities and private transportation companies. Streetcar, subway and light rail transit operators are employed by urban transit systems.

Mine labourers carry out a variety of general labouring duties to assist in the extraction of coal, minerals and ore, and in other services in support of underground mining. They are employed by coal, metal and non-metallic mineral mines.

The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Essentials Micro-credential provides an understanding of the OHS field, including how health and safety relate to an organization’s overall management system and the knowledge of the legal framework for OHS in BC. This program will provide students with sufficient understanding of OHS in the workplace so that they can competently manage a basic OHS program.

Occupational Health and Safety Essentials Micro-credential

This micro-credential training will help healthcare workers to better support Indigenous patients and families, especially during times of vulnerability as they access the healthcare system.  This training will assist learners in better understanding Indigenous cultures and worldviews, and encourage learners to examine their own worldviews, cultures, implicit biases, and practices in the workplace.

Occupational Health& Safety Micro-Credential is a comprehensive micro-credential course addressing workplace safety and compliance. Comprising of three essential modules, the program equips learners with vital knowledge and skills.

 The Introduction to Health Impact Assessment Micro-Certificate equips multi-disciplinary professionals with the critical skills to prevent community health and safety risks and improve population health outcomes in projects and developments. As governments, financial institutions, the private sector, and communities increasingly integrate health into decision-making processes, this program provides essential tools to do so. Drawing on international expertise, it also explores how HIAs can address core concerns that Indigenous populations and communities have regarding projects.
