To work as a software developer or programmer in B.C., you may choose to become certified through Canada's Association of Information Technology Professionals. Eligibility is achieved through completion of an accredited IT post-secondary program, and/or meeting work experience requirements.

This instructional program class comprises any program that focuses on the design, development, and programming of interactive media entertainment, including computer and video games, virtual environments, Internet applications, and other interactive media. These programs include courses in theory of games, turn-based games, real-time games, visual and interactive design, story development, animation, simulation, and programming.

Game Development Micro-credentials

Software developers and programmers design, write, and test code for new systems and software to ensure efficiency. They create the foundations for operative systems and run diagnostic programs to certify effectiveness. They are employed in computer software, computer and video game development firms, information technology consulting firms, and in information technology units throughout the public and private sectors.

With multiple entry points, our flexible course options can lead to different pathways into Animation, Game Development and VFX. You will earn a Skills Badge for each course you complete that can be displayed on LinkedIn and resumés to make your new training stand out.

Creative Technology Micro-credentials

The Video Game Prototyping Micro-credential allows you to learn about the process of creating a simplified, early version of a video game to test and validate design concepts, gameplay mechanics, and overall feasibility before investing significant time and resources into full-scale development. Prototyping allows developers to experiment with ideas, gather feedback, and identify potential issues or improvements at an early stage. This hands-on course is designed to equip you with a combination of creative and technical skills needed to create prototypes of captivating and interactive gaming experience concepts.

Video Game Prototyping Micro-credential

 The Creative Technology Micro-certificate is made up of a suite of three dual-studies courses for high school students to explore digital creativity. They are graphic design, game design & development and creative projects. Students can apply to all or any of the courses, though all three would need to be completed to receive the Creative Technology micro-certificate.

2D Graphics and Rendering Essentials for Video Games Micro-certificate

The 3D Graphics and Rendering Essentials for Video Games Micro-certificate will provide you with the skills needed for the digital media and gaming industry in B.C. Build on your existing understanding of computer science and gain the fundamental skill set required to develop and manipulate advanced, interactive 3D images. Specifically, the program will augment your understanding of the field with specific skills used across the creative technology sector, such as video game design and development, the mathematics behind graphics and animation, and collaborative development tools.
