To work as a financial planner in B.C., you may choose to earn the Certified Financial Planner® certification through FP Canada. To obtain the CFP designation, candidates must complete a rigorous education program, pass a national exam, have a post-secondary degree and demonstrate three years of qualifying work experience. 

Employment as a securities manager may additionally require several years of related work experience.

To work as a financial analyst in B.C., you may choose to earn a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation. You can earn the designation by completing the CFA® Program and acceptable work experience requirements.

To work as a financial sales representative in B.C., you may need to become a member with the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization.

To work as a financial sales representative in B.C., you may need to be registered with the British Columbia Securities Commission.

This instructional program class comprises any program that generally prepares individuals to plan, manage, and analyse the financial and monetary aspects and performance of business enterprises, banking institutions, or other organizations. These programs include courses in principles of accounting; financial instruments; capital planning; funds acquisition; asset and debt management; budgeting; financial analysis; and investments and portfolio management.

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to plan and manage the financial interests and growth of individuals and institutions. These programs include courses in portfolio management, investment management, estate planning, insurance, tax planning, strategic investing and planning, financial consulting services, and client relations.

Finance Post-Baccalaureate Diplomas

Senior managers in health, education, social and community services and membership organizations plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate, through middle managers, membership and other organizations or institutions that deliver health, education, social or community services. They formulate policies which establish the direction to be taken by these organizations, either alone or in conjunction with a board of directors. They are employed in health care organizations, educational services, social and community services and membership organizations or they may own and operate their own business.

Senior managers in trade, broadcasting and other customer services plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate, through middle managers, trade, broadcasting and other service industry companies. They formulate policies which establish the direction to be taken by these companies, either alone or in conjunction with a board of directors. They work in establishments in broadcasting and related media services, wholesale trade, retail trade, accommodation and food service, and other services or they may own and operate their own business.

Insurance, real estate and financial brokerage managers plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities of departments or establishments that provide insurance, mortgage, real estate and investment services. They are generally responsible for business development and must ensure that their group reaches performance levels related to established objectives. They are employed by insurance companies, real estate firms, stockbrokers, investment dealers, mortgage brokers and security and commodity exchanges.

Banking, insurance and other financial clerks compile, process and maintain banking, insurance and other financial information. They are employed by banks, credit companies, private and public insurance establishments, investment firms and other financial establishments throughout the private and public sectors.

Financial sales representatives sell basic deposit, investment and loan products and services to individuals and businesses. They work in banks, credit unions, trust companies and similar financial institutions.

To receive the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation, you must be registered with the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) in good standing. Eligibility is achieved through completion of the required coursework, relevant exams, and the Job Ready Program offered by the HRPA.

The North American Business Management Applied Post Baccalaureate Diploma (NABU Applied) builds knowledge about how to do business in North America for students from around the world. International students and new permanent residents with an undergraduate degree completed outside of Canada can gain both North American business credentials and practical hands-on work experience in a North American organization. This full-time program is offered in an accelerated format and includes a work placement practicum. Concentrations are available in marketing, human resources, international strategy & information management and finance & investment.

North American Business Management Applied Post-Baccalaureate Diploma

The Finance Post-Baccalaureate Diploma helps you develop financial literacy; a strong foundation in financial planning and investing and an understanding of business and financial law. Once you graduate, you’ll be prepared to take on roles such as financial planner, financial advisor or investment analyst. You'll also have the option to participate in the Career Boost programs. 

Finance Post-Baccalaureate Diploma

The Financial Analysis Post-Degree Diploma provides the financial knowledge and foundation in real-world investment analysis and portfolio management skills. In the Business Internship Program, you’ll apply the theory and knowledge you’ve learned in class into a real-world business setting. During your unpaid part-time internship, you’ll be assigned tasks and projects that junior management, marketing, business, administrative and/or sales employees complete in the modern workplace. You'll also have the option to participate in the Career Boost programs. 

Financial Analysis Post-Degree Diploma

The Financial Planning Post-Degree Diploma builds your knowledge of financial planning, taxation and investing that you’ll need in order to become a Certified Financial Planner. 

You’ll take finance courses in financial services marketing, Canadian securities, wealth management and more. In your second semester, you’ll create a professional financial plan using four of the six financial components you’ve learned through your education. When possible, cases will be sourced from current clients. In the Business Internship Program, you’ll apply the theory and knowledge you’ve learned in class into a real-world business setting. 

During your unpaid part-time internship, you’ll be assigned tasks and projects that junior management, marketing, business, administrative and/or sales employees complete in the modern workplace. You'll also have the option to participate in the Career Boost program. 

Financial Planning Post-Degree Diploma

The Finance Post-Baccalaureate Diploma is for students who have a non-business degree and want to return to university for one or two years to acquire a specialty in a functional area of business. Students with a first degree in business, but who want to change their area of focus, may complete a Post-baccalaureate diploma as well. Take coursework in macroeconomics and microeconomics, financial management, financial accounting, business statistics, portfolio and equity analysis, and more.
